Job responsibilities
Job Purpose
To represent Weldmar Hospicecare throughout the county, engaging in conversations with members of the public about the work of Weldmar to raise vital funds through regular giving and lottery membership. You will be responsible for meeting an achievable monthly target, which can be met through engaging members of the public through venues, events and door to door fundraising.
Scope and Limits of Authority
You will be working towards a monthly target to sign up and retain regular supporters and lottery players for Weldmar Hospicecare, achieved by engaging in conversations with members of the public
You will use your persuasive skills to work both as an individual and as part of the wider fundraising team when required, including at key Weldmar or external events
As well as securing vital sustainable income for the charity, your role will heavily involve educating the wider public about Weldmars services and how their support will make a difference. You will act as an ambassador for the charity, ensuring that you are acting appropriately and professionally at all times and following the fundraising regulations
You will be responsible for arranging your own diary ensuring that you cover all locations across the county throughout the year, with a mix of different fundraising environments
During key events, either organised by Weldmar Hospicecare or having a presence at an external event, you will be required to work with the wider fundraising team or your colleagues in the marketing department to ensure you are available to attend, which if at evenings or weekends, time off in lieu will be given
You will work as part of the necessary working groups within the charity to ensure all opportunities are maximised, success is being monitored and best practice is being followed at all times
Job tasks
Responsibilities will include but not be restricted to:
Face to Face Recruitment
- Compile an engagement plan of when and where you are going to conduct face to face fundraising throughout all areas of the county where Weldmar provides care
- Liaise with and seek permission from high footfall venues such as supermarkets, garden centres, sports stadiums and high streets (via local town council) to secure regular locations to work from
- Engage in positive conversations with members of the public about the work of Weldmar Hospicecare and how regular sustainable donations are required, encouraging financial support in a professional and non-pressurising way
- Work in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulations ensuring that all data handled is in a safe and secure way and only used for the sole purpose that it has been obtained for
- Work in compliance with the Fundraising Regulator Code of Practice
- Ensure that you are safe and look professional, smart and branded at all times
- To act as a brand ambassador for Weldmar Hospicecare at all times.
- Provide great customer service to all members of the public when representing Weldmar Hospicecare
Events
- Liaise with the fundraising team on relevant face to face events where you can attend to engage with the community and increase regular donations
- Liaise with the marketing team on scheduled external events or shows where Weldmar will have a presence ensuring that you are available to attend
- Work as part of the wider Weldmar team to educate and support members of the public with any questions or advice that they require, offering the lottery or regular giving products as part of the conversation if it is appropriate to do so
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications and Knowledge
- No specific qualifications are required for this job role however knowledge and understanding of the work of Weldmar Hospicecare is required, with an in depth understanding of our range of services and our plans for the future
- Knowledge of the importance of face to face fundraising and how to conduct this in a professional and approachable way
- In depth knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulations and the Fundraising Code of Practice and how this relates to face to face fundraising
- Good knowledge and IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Experience
Ideally, previous experience with face to face fundraising or sales environment
Proven track record of working with members of the public with great customer service
Experience of engaging in professional conversations leading to securing financial support
Experience of providing a good customer experience/customer service
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with key colleagues across the organisation
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, including accuracy
- Excellent persuasive skills without being pressurizing
- Confidence to approach and engage with members of the public to talk about the work of Weldmar and financial opportunities
- The ability to work on your own, be self-motivated and drive to achieve set goals
- Excellent time management and planning skills to enable you to manage your diary and workload at all times

This role requires the post holder to work remotely from high street venues, supermarkets and other public areas. However, when required will need to work from home and at our charity headquarters in Weymouth.
