Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated Band 6 Mental Health Nurse, looking for a challenge, committed to their professional
development and wishes to participate in the delivery of excellent patient
focused care in a specialist Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation setting.
Main duties of the job
An experienced Band 6 Mental Health Nurse able to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, to meet the needs of a wide variety of patients referred to Mildmay Hospital, ensuring the highest possible standards of practice
Able to communicate complex and highly sensitive information about patients mental and physical health with patients who have impairments to language, comprehension, capacity and reasoning due to their mental and physical health problems The candidate should react proactively in cases of crisis and put in place plans to resolve situations.

The post holder
must at all times work in accordance with NMCs The Code (2018)
- Assesses, plans,
implements and evaluates care for patients with specific needs including mental
health needs and makes changes as necessary.
- To conduct
psychosocial and risk assessments in accordance with operational policy
- To
contribute to the development of individual care plans in consultation
with patients, families/carers, the MDT and community teams and other
appropriate service providers.
- To plan
and arrange any subsequent mental health care
- Demonstrates
specialist skills and advanced clinical knowledge in HIV and Mental
Health.
- Identifies
deteriorating patients and takes the appropriate action to manage the
situation, liaising with Multi-disciplinary team as appropriate.
- Be able
to communicate complex and highly sensitive information about patients
mental and physical health with patients who have impairments to language,
comprehension, capacity and reasoning due to their mental and physical
health problems.
- Reacts proactively in cases of
crisis and puts in place plans to resolve situations with supervision,
support and guidance as appropriate
- Ensures
documentation is always accurate and up to date.
- Demonstrates an
enquiring approach to patient care.
- Educates patients and relatives about how to
adopt healthy lifestyles, and look after their own health and wellbeing.
- Identifies and helps patients, relatives and
staff to reduce any risks associated with health and wellbeing, including
complex risks i.e. sexual health, mental health, drugs and alcohol use etc.
- Ensures patients views are taken into account
in the decision making process.
- Participates in collaborative decision making
within the nursing team
- Improves clinical
practice of self and others through reflection.
- Participates in
research, audit and quality initiatives, e.g. Essence of Care
- Demonstrates
knowledge and skills related to evidence based practice
- Monitors the
quality of work on own area and alerts others to quality issues

- Train, induct, guide & supervise trained
nurses & Healthcare Support Workers in the implementation of NHIVNA & Care
Assistants competencies respectively
- To
participate in managerial supervision and annual appraisal
- Supports all
members of the nursing staff.
