Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated registered nurse to join the team to deliver specialist palliative care to patients at Mary Stevens Hospice.

We are looking for a full time, 36 hours, Band 6 Nurse who has the knowledge, skill and aptitude to take the lead and responsibility to provide a high standard of specialist palliative nursing care.

The post holder will be capable and confident in their clinical judgement and decision-making, taking overall accountability for the running of the clinical shifts, which include on-call cover.

Main duties of the job

Deliver high quality specialist palliative and end of life nursing care as part of the multidisciplinary team.

To coordinate the assessment, planning and evaluation of individualised patient centred care.

Ensure a holistic approach that is responsive to patient's needs.

To be responsible for the coordination and smooth running of a shift ensuring it is well organised and staff, patients and visitors are safe.

As a registered accountable and autonomous nurse to act in the best interest of the patients always.

Oversee the work of junior staff and students, acting in the role of mentor to aid their experience and learning, and be willing to engage in both formal and informal teaching sessions to colleagues and other staff from other clinical areas or care setting.

Undertake patient assessments in the community, including local Trusts and care homes, as part of delivering a streamlined service into the Inpatient Unit.

To champion the Hospice and its vision of Care, Compassion and Kindness.

To participate in the on call rota to provide telephone advice to colleagues and in exceptional circumstances to attend the Hospice out of hours and cover a shift to ensure continuity of care on the Inpatient Unit.
