Trustees with Medical and Nursing Experience

Job summary

St Richards Hospice (https://www.strichards.org.uk/) is a key provider of healthcare in Worcestershire and supports and cares for adults with illnesses which cannot be cured, through our community teams, our newly developed state-of-the-art day services and our seventeen beds. We are passionately committed to enabling our patients to take control of their lives as their condition changes and we offer support to those important to them too. You will join us at an exciting time in our development, with two major building projects recently completed, to provide new therapeutic and social facilities for day patients and a completely refurbished in-patient area.

In 2023 we developed an exciting new clinical strategy and are now looking to appoint two Trustees, one with current Consultant level experience and the other with current senior nursing experience, to join our Board and provide advice and support to our clinical teams in its implementation. The Board of Trustees is ultimately responsible for leading our charity and deciding how it is run; as a Trustee, you will help us to make sound decisions about providing the best possible services for our patients within our resources and be committed to our philosophy of continuous development.

Main duties of the job

We want our Board to be more representative and therefore wish to encourage both younger applicants and those from diverse ethnic backgrounds. No previous Board experience is necessary, as training will be provided; these positions, therefore, would suit individuals in the earlier stages of their careers, who want to take the first steps in developing wider board level and governance experience.

As well as your clinical background and experience, you will also have excellent inter-personal and communication skills, both to act as an ambassador for St Richards within our community and to advise, and encourage, our clinical and support teams, and our many volunteers.

The role is voluntary (with reasonable expenses reimbursed) and will require a commitment to prepare for and attend quarterly Board meetings at the hospice in Worcester, the annual Board Away-day and the meetings of any committees which you are invited to join.

About us

If you can share our passion for providing extraordinary care for our patients, and are interested in finding out more about these exciting roles, we shall be delighted to hear from you. For further information, and for an informal discussion or visit, please contact Jenny Cowpe, Chair, atjcowpe@strichards.org.uk or on 01905 958104, or Mike Wilkerson, Chief Executive atmwilkerson@strichards.org.ukor on 01905 958177.
