Job responsibilities
*The job role is bank work only - shifts are adhoc and not guaranteed
Participate in national screening work such as cervical
cytology and deliver the national immunisation and vaccination schedule.
Maintaining robust call and recall systems.
Administer child and adult immunisations and vaccinations
in accordance with national and local programmes. Competent in anaphylaxis
and resuscitation techniques. Ensuring safe storage, rotation and disposals
of vaccines and drugs and that adequate stock levels are maintained
Cytology/smears
Provide comprehensive travel health advice for patients
prior to travel including appropriate vaccination e.g. yellow fever, safe
sex, sun protection, food hygiene, first aid and emergency medication, health
insurance and vaccinations
Make professionally autonomous decisions for which he/she
is accountable and provide safe, evidence based, cost effective,
individualised patient care
Care for patients with uncomplicated wounds including but
not limited to removal of sutures/tissue viability assessment/wound cleaning
and dressing/management of burns and scalds/ ulcer care including Doppler assessment.
Carry out screening/testing including, but not limited to
urine testing, Blood pressure monitoring, glucose testing, weight and height
measurements.
Make appropriate referrals to other members of the
primary, community and secondary care teams
Break bad news to patients/parents/carers and provide
appropriate ongoing support to meet identified needs
Enables, supports and encourage individuals, families and
groups to address issues which affect their health and social well-being.
Promote health and well- being, giving general education
advice on diet, contraception, smoking chronic disease management, exercise
etc
Where necessary evaluate patient test results in
conjunction with the patient and their GP and ensure the appropriate course
of treatment is initiated.
Liaise and maintain good working relationships with all
members of the practice team. Work within the multi-disciplinary team within
the practice and across the wider health system
Administration
To maintain accurate patient records according to NMC
Standards
Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation
associated with patient health care
Ensure all data protection requirements are met when
gathering, recording and storing patient data.
To collect data and participate in regular Practice audit
and research projects
To contribute to the preparation of any Practice
development plans
Teaching and
Mentoring Role
Promote a learning environment for patients, nurses and
other professionals
Assist with the planning and implementation and teaching
for practice staff including medical students, nurse students, nurses and
health care assistants
Participate in clinical supervision
Managerial Role
Participate in protocol development including PGDs
As part of the nursing team ensure all appropriate practice
policies are fully implemented.
Maintenance of stock and supplies, including clinical
supplies, vaccines and health information literature, and providing timely
and accurate purchasing records to the practice manager
Participate in maintaining CQC requirements including
Infection control audits, COSHH standards, Cold chain, handling sharps and
clinical waste.
General
To maintain own annual registration with the NMC and
adhere to Code of Professional Conduct
To maintain a safe and
therapeutic environment for all PHCT staff, patients, carers and co-workers
from other agencies. Ensure all statutory regulations (e.g. Health &
Safety, COSHH, etc.) are implemented and adhered to
To promote a professional approach at all times by attire
and attitude to patients and staff both in and out of the Practice
To maintain own continuous professional development and
ensure PDP kept up-to-date in line with the requirements of the Practice
Undertake regular mandatory training.
Attend and participate in staff and Practice meetings and
in-house clinical training sessions
Any other reasonable duties that may be required from time-to-time
