Spirometry Technician

Job summary

Qualified in spirometry or on the journey to becoming a spiro technician and has a strong interest in receiving training in spirometry. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to perform or be trained to conduct spirometry assessments, supporting patients with respiratory conditions and contributing to the ongoing management and monitoring of their lung health

Main duties of the job

You will provide care within the scope of the role, following established practice guidelines and protocols. They will run specialist clinics, apply evidence-based practices for patients with long-term conditions, and deliver preventative interventions to all patients.

WF GP FedNet is a not-for-profit Federation of the 36 GP Practices in Waltham Forest. We are a private limited company who provides NHS Services based in Primary Care, pooling the skills and resources of local GPs to provide large scale services as part of the local NHS Strategy to bring more services into the Community to help people stay well and at home.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Perform high quality Spirometry testing
  • Support respiratory health assessments
  • Conduct high quality spirometry tests
  • Peak flow measurements
  • Ensure compliance with current clinical and professional standards
  • Conduct accurate and high-quality spirometry tests according to ARTP standards.
  • Ensure appropriate patient preparation, including pre-test instructions and assessment of contraindications.
  • Calibrate and maintain spirometry equipment as per manufacturer guidelines and ARTP protocols.
  • Provide clear explanations to patients regarding the purpose and process of spirometry testing.
  • Support patients in achieving optimal test performance through encouragement and guidance.
  • Ensure all spirometry procedures comply with ARTP accreditation guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in line with GDPR and other relevant regulations.
  • Perform routine checks and troubleshooting of spirometry equipment to ensure functionality.
  • Follow infection control standards
  • Contribute new ideas to improve patient care
  • Attend educational training courses that relate to your job and the objectives of the federation, when requested
  • Recording of ECGs, 24-hour blood pressure, 24-hour ECGs
  • Maintain stock items and medical equipment in consulting and examination rooms
  • Ordering stock
