Job summary

Rotherham Hospice is seeking compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Support Workers to join our Patient Care Services team as part of either the day or night team, with occasional rotation required.

The Healthcare Support Worker role may be assigned to work within our Hospice at Home Team or our Inpatient Unit at the Hospice, providing vital support to patients and their families during challenging times.

Under the direction of the Hospice at Head of Hospice at Home or Head of Inpatient Unit, Healthcare Support Workers will assist in delivering high-quality, person centered care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and well-being.

Main duties of the job

Patient Care and Support

  • Provide compassionate and empathetic care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families, respecting their dignity, choices, and cultural preferences.
  • Assist patients with personal care tasks, including bathing, toileting, dressing, and feeding, ensuring their physical comfort and well-being. Support patients with mobility, transfers, and positioning, using safe manual handling techniques and equipment as required.
  • Facilitate late discharge and support overnight admissions into hospice care.

Observation and Reporting

  • Monitor patients' vital signs, symptoms, and general condition, reporting any changes or concerns to the Head of Hospice at Home or Head of Inpatient Unit.
  • Document patient observations, care interventions, and other relevant information accurately and timely in accordance with hospice policies and procedures.

At Rotherham Hospice, we provide exceptional care for all those affected by terminal illness and are the only adult hospice in Rotherham for the people of Rotherham and surrounding villages.

We began offering Day Hospice services in 1994, and have grown over the years to now provide a 14 bed Inpatient Unit alongside our Hospice Community Team who provide care in the community. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work together to provide palliative care that incorporates psychological, physical, social and spiritual support to help patients and their families achieve the very best quality of life, both at home and in the Hospice.

  • Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members, including nurses, doctors, social workers, and therapists, to ensure coordinated and holistic care for patients and families.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and care planning sessions, contributing insights and observations to inform patient care plans and goals.
