Experience

Essential

• Demonstrate direct clinical experience (providing assessment and developing treatment plans) delivering art therapy interventions for children and young people
• Experience of routine clinical outcome monitoring
• Experience of managing clinical risk assessment
• Experience engaging a range of stakeholders (young people, families, mental health providers, schools, Local Authority staff etc.)
• Experience working in a multi-disciplinary mental health team
• Experience working in educational settings
• Experience of using Microsoft Office package

Desirable

• Experience using IAPTUS CYP data management system and reporting into NHS Data Set
• Post-qualification experience of autonomous working with a relevant client group both in groups and individually
• Experience of working with CYP with SEND aged 5-18 with mental health difficulties
• Experience of assessing individuals for an arts therapy and making recommendations to MDT
• Experience supervising safeguarding cases

Skills and aptitude

Essential

• Excellent leadership, problem-solving and communication skills
• Skills in planning, organising, time management and prioritising own workload and working autonomously
• Skills in assessing individuals for arts therapy balancing risk with client needs and service priorities
• Skills in applying art therapy theories to work with individuals, groups and organisation
• Evidence of continuing professional development as required by HCPC/BACP
• Ability to work with people with complex and multi-layered needs
• Ability to work with non-verbal individuals, adapting to their preferred communication styles
• Alignment to BWW Minds values
• Ability to build constructive relationships with warmth and empathy, using good communication skills
• Computer literacy and high standard of documented communication skills including the ability to produce reports detailing progress of therapy, selecting relevant information from sessions and expressing analytical detail without bias

Knowledge

Essential

• Knowledge of systemic, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic theories and when each is appropriate for clinical intervention
• Knowledge of evidence-based practice, clinical governance and related knowledge for research and audit
• Highly developed knowledge of child and adult safeguarding

Desirable

• Awareness of working with cultural competence and of equality and diversity issues relevant to the local population
• Knowledge of coproduction in models of service development
• Supervising arts therapists (trainee or qualified)

Qualifications

Essential

• Registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) or British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) as an Art Therapist
• MA/MSc or equivalent in Art Therapy

Desirable

• Clinical supervision training
• Cultural awareness training
• Other related academic qualifications
