Coventry and Warwickshire Mind are recruiting a full time support worker to work within our community autism support service.
Main duties of the job
The Community Autism Support Service (CASS) is a new partnership between Coventry and Warwickshire Mind, Autism West Midlands and Act for Autism. This role would be based within CWMind. The service delivers groups, one to one support and peer support to all age individuals training for autistic people, parents, carers and professionals and has a new navigation helpline. The team is all age.
This role will involve you needing to work as part of a team delivering support group across Coventry and Warwickshire to autistic adults/children with mild to moderate mental health concerns at pre/post assessment stage.
You will also need to provide this service in CWMind buildings and community settings, working towards reducing presenting issues/concerns and increasing overall physical and mental wellbeing, community integration and access to education/work opportunities, to live independently, as well as empower service users to access support and other services as appropriate.

Hours:37 hrs typically Mon-Fri 9am-4.30pm but also flexibility to ensure service cover between the hours of 9am-8pm Monday to Friday, and Saturday daytime. May consider Job share

Key Responsibilities:
- Receive referrals and effectively manage contact of people in the service.
- Provide direct support to autistic children/adults through a range of targeted activities including group, peer and 1:1 support sessions.
- Hold a caseload of individuals who have been identified for the 1:1 support service including carrying out a comprehensive needs and risk assessment, and liaising with other professionals involved as appropriate.
- Develop a 1:1 support plan in partnership and agreement with service users ensuring their identified needs are addressed.
- Provide consistent, brief time limited 1:1 support to individuals including a range of practical and emotional interventions as appropriate.
- Ensure needs identified are being addressed through regular support plan reviews.
- Take responsibility for safeguarding issues and concerns identified involving relevant staff and other agencies where appropriate.
- Work towards increasing community integration and attaining greater independence within the community.
- Signpost and support service users to access a variety of additional support services, resources and up-to-date information relating to individual presenting needs either at Coventry and Warwickshire Mind and/or other relevant agencies, using technology where appropriate.
Essential criteria includes:
- A minimum of one-year experience of providing support interventions to vulnerable adults with varying mental health and wellbeing needs.
- Lived or work experience of autism.
- Experience of delivering a wide range of practical and emotional support.
- Empowering adults to positively engage with support activities.
- Up to date knowledge of mental health, specifically in relation to the difficulties that may present in autistic adults.
- Working knowledge of common mental health problems e.g. stress, anxiety, depression.
- NVQ level 2 or equivalent.
- A commitment to the participation of service users in decision-making processes, and in the design and delivery of the services they access.
- An ability to travel to venues across Coventry and Warwickshire.
- Must have access to a vehicle as means of transport.
- Flexible approach to working to ensure service cover between the hours of 8am-8pm Monday to Friday, and Saturday daytime.
