Job summary

Invicta Health has an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Support Worker to join the team on a part time basis at East Cliff Practice, working 21 hours per week.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role.

Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Support Worker you will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients as the result of a direct referral from a GP, Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Pharmacist, Practice Nurse & qualified clinicians. You will work strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

Collection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and procedures, ensuring the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and has given consent.

Check patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirm with patient whenever possible.

Ensure all samples are stored in appropriate containers and accurately labelled to confirm patient identity.

Accurately record collection of blood samples in the patient medical record in accordance with practice procedure.

Ensure that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely manner.

Undertake ECG and BP Tests.

Deliver Dermascope Clinics as required. This includes seeing and assessing patients independently and taking responsibility for onward referrals.

Administer flu vaccinations to patients as and when required.

Recognise simple test results (blood glucose, ECG and BP) and take appropriate action.

Ensure that all anomalies on test results are reported to a senior member of staff.

Assist with minor operations/procedures by reviewing infection, prevention, and control measures, ensuring equipment is available, passing equipment to the clinician and chaperoning patients on request.

Record patient information clearly, concisely, ensuring adherence to national and local guidance.

Liaise with and assist members of the administrative team with regards to Phlebotomy tasks and queries.

Report any clinical or environmental issues of concern and take action to rectify these where appropriate.

Check and record fridge temperatures daily to maintain the cold chain. Check and re-stock phlebotomy equipment in GP rooms regularly.

Understand the importance of and adhere to infection control issues. Keep all clinical areas clean and free from clutter.

Maintain the practice health promotion board, ensuring it is kept up to date with relevant and correct information.

Communicate effectively, sensitively, and compassionately with colleagues, patients and carers. Recognising their needs for alternative methods of communication.

Liaise with and feedback effectively to the nursing team and other members of multi-disciplinary team.

Contribute to the education of students from various health and social care professions and support other staff to gain new skills and knowledge.

General Duties

To work collaboratively and professionally with colleagues across Invicta Health, building and maintaining relationships.

To contribute to the development of services, including processes, templates and principles.

To ensure that strict confidentiality is observed at all times, especially when dealing with personal information.

To take part in any statutory and mandatory training or other training and development programmes as requested.

Any other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager.
