Job summary

Salary: £25,480 FTE per annum, pro rata for part time

  • Annual salary shown based on a 37.5 hour per week, full time equivalent (FTE)
  • Final annual salary will be calculated on a pro rata basis to reflect 15 hours per week contracted hours, which amounts to £10,191 per annum / £13.06 per hour

Working pattern: 15 hours per week worked as 2 days per week

  • Wednesday plus one other day

*A current full, valid driving license is essential for this role*

We are looking for a Caretaker to join our facilities team at the Treehouse Hospice in Suffolk.

This rewarding role offers the opportunity for your work to have a meaningful impact on the people we care for every day at the hospice and those who work or visit there. You will be trusted to work independently, take initiative and respond to the changing needs of the site, while always ensuring high standards of safety and care.

This is a varied and hands-on role where you will play a key part in maintaining a safe, welcoming and well-functioning environment. Working closely with the Facilities Manager, you will support both day-to-day maintenance and longer-term site improvements.

Main duties of the job

Do you have:

  • Experience in general maintenance, including basic carpentry, plumbing and minor electrical work?

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across the site
  • Undertaking general repairs including painting, decorating, minor building works and upkeep of outdoor areas
  • Completing routine inspections and identifying maintenance or safety issues
  • Managing and prioritising maintenance tasks to ensure timely and cost-effective completion
  • Monitoring recurring issues and supporting solutions to prevent future problems
  • Supporting fire safety procedures, including routine checks and record keeping
  • Liaising with contractors and supporting volunteers where required
  • Maintaining accurate records and updating maintenance logs

Job Summary:

To provide co-ordination of identified site improvement programmes as well as to support and facilitate the delivery of safe and efficient site maintenance. To implement improvement requirements in line with identified responsibilities and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Identified portfolio of works, as agreed with Site Facilities Manager, which include planned and preventative measures and incorporates future planning of life-cycled maintenance.
  • Review site risk assessments and complete identified audit processes as appropriate.
  • Monitor identified repeat issues that may occur and implement agreed plans to mitigate further recurrence.
  • Manage multiple work activities simultaneously to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and cost effectively
  • Check the maintenance logbook and attend to items listed, reporting back to Site Facilities Manager when completed.
  • Attend to all remedial maintenance as discussed with the Site Facilities Manager.
  • Undertake property inspections; identifying any issues, repairs or advisory works or recommendations for the general upkeep of the property.
  • Undertake minor plumbing repairs, carpentry, building work and general maintenance.
  • Complete reactive maintenance works (eg Change light bulbs, check appliances etc) and carry out such minor electrical repairs as are within the post holders limits and legislation.
  • Undertake and assist with maintenance and caretaking tasks, such as painting and decorating, gardens, fence panels, & gutters.
  • Supervising of volunteers as required assisting with developing their skills and knowledge.
  • Attending to contractors or tradespersons when necessary.
