Main duties of the job

Your role will involve working alongside our Director of Pharmacy, Regional Lead Pharmacist, National Pharmacy Technician, and other stakeholders to deliver a wide range of duties including:

  • Analysis and presentation of e-PACT2 and other internal prescribing data e.g., SystmOne
  • Development and presentation of service level and national prescribing reports
  • Development and implementation of pharmacy and medicines audit
  • Monitoring, review and management of pharmacy and medicine incidents
  • Supporting the delivery of the Humankind Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Workplan
  • Supporting the Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Group

Job description

Job responsibilities

To support the Director of Pharmacy in delivering the Humankind Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Workplan. To support in the development of policy, enable safety and quality in service delivery and mobilisation/decommissioning of services. .

1. Analysis and presentation of ePACT data at national and regional level and making subsequent recommendations (with support from the Director of Pharmacy/Regional Lead Pharmacist) in line with best practice guidelines and Humankind policies and procedures. This also supports the management and subsequent reporting of rebate schemes between Humankind and the Pharmaceutical Industry.

2. Analysis of other internal Humankind data sets and making subsequent recommendations (with support from Director of Pharmacy/Regional Lead Pharmacist) in line with best practice guidelines and Humankind policies and procedures

3. Support the Director of Pharmacy/Regional Lead Pharmacist to develop and implement action plans for achieving and maintaining performance targets and KPIs and appropriate quality standards.

4. Support the Director of Pharmacy/Regional Lead Pharmacist working in conjunction with the Regional/National Leads and Service Clinical Directors in developing and delivering clinically safe and effective services, ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory and professional bodies' requirements

5. Contribute to the development of clinical policies and procedures by supporting working parties, delivering staff training and communicating and implementing at regional/service level.

6. Support the Director of Pharmacy/Regional Lead Pharmacist and services as they initiate innovative forms of service delivery, identifying development opportunities to maintain and develop service provision, for example pharmacy services, needle and syringe provision.

7. Support the provision of relevant clinical interventions (including clinical alerts) at local and regional level, in line with service user needs, legislation, best practice, the service contract, CQC and Commissioner requirements.

8. Contribute to the review of clinical/medicines optimisation/prescribing data, pertaining to KPIs and subsequent action of any shortfall to improve performance and ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective performance at local and regional level.

9. Participate in the review of and facilitate the implementation of strategies, policies and guidelines relating to clinical, prescribing and wider interventions where appropriate in support of the Director of Pharmacy/Lead Regional Pharmacist, to ensure they meet the changing needs of the organisation.

10. Support the Director of Pharmacy/Regional Lead Pharmacist on region wide performance evaluation (including identification of service gaps/deficiencies), investigating and resolving incidents, complaints and disciplinary matters and formulating/supporting appropriate remedial action.

11. Support the wider clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation-related research and audits as part of the Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Team. Monitor, review and manage the implementation of recommendations.

12. Support the provision of pharmacy and medicines optimisation advice and support during business development opportunities, contract reviews and contract mobilisation/decommissioning.

13. Manage approved prescribing resources and patient information leaflets ensuring availability and use by all staff to ensure that service users/carers understand the purpose of their medicines. Act as a source of advice to deal with any practical issues

14. Work with the life experience group to support active engagement with people who use our services.that may preventoptimal use.

15. Contribute to the management of supply chain and storage problems of medicines.

16. Organise and deliver training/disseminate learning and development opportunities across the organisation as appropriate.

17. Foster and support the organisations interface with commissioners, Local Pharmaceutical Committees, primary care, secondary care and other key stakeholders.

18. Have oversight of and support the management of controlled stationary at local and regional level.

19. Contribute to the response to medication/drug alerts overseen by the Director of Pharmacy/Regional Lead Pharmacist.

20. Support local Controlled Drug Assistants to ensure participation with the CDLIN, where necessary.

21. Provide reports and briefings as required, including reports to the Senior Management Team, Commissioners and operational and strategic meetings.

22. Contribute to the development of Humankind through membership of and contribution to Regional management teams and organisation wide working groups.

23. Undertake continuing professional development including participating in clinical supervision, PDRs and attending training as/when required.

24. Work in accordance with all relevant legislation, best practice policies & procedures and guidelines both internal and external. This includes Humankinds clinical governance framework.

25. Keep abreast of policy and professional development within your area of professional expertise.

  • Membership and/or Accreditation with relevant professional body e.g. Membership of APTUK, CMHP credentialed. D
  • Experience of supporting audits, supporting formulary decisions and responding to medicines information enquiries.
  • E Experience in the management of substance misuse.
  • D Experience of using Methasoft dispensing systems and SystmOne.
  • D Knowledge of dealing with personal safety situations.
  • D Ability to be flexible with working times and to travel to different locations when required. E

Desirable

  • Excellent knowledge and expereince of working with MS Excel (and other Office programmes) and other data analytic tools.
