Family
Psychology Mutual CIC has been awarded a Youth Endowment Fund grant for an
efficacy Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) for Functional Family Therapy Gangs
(FFT-G).This has been granted after a
successful pilot RCT that took place in Redbridge to test out the ability of
the intervention to adapt and deliver in a UK context and achieve outcomes for
young people aged 10 to 17 who are considered at risk of gang involvement and
criminal exploitation.The project will
be delivered in collaboration with the London Boroughs of Redbridge, Tower
Hamlets, and Haringey. There will be
three FFT-G teams, each consisting of one Supervisor (or Supervisor-in-training),
two FFT workers and a part-time (0.8 FTE) Business Support Officer. The teams will be embedded within their
assigned London Borough where we anticipate close interagency collaboration,
joint working, and the use of shared data systems.
Main duties of the job
About the role
During the first year, the Supervisor/Supervisor-in-training will serve as the teams operational manager while an FFT-LLC Consultant provides clinical group supervision and training in the FFT-G model.Depending on prior experiences of FFT, you will be trained as an FFT-G Supervisor at the end of the first year by first going on an externship in the USA.In the second year, the postholder will assume responsibility for providing clinical supervision to FFT-G workers and continue to receive training and oversight from an FFT-LLC Consultant.You will hold a small caseload of families while managing the team and do so throughout the project.
There will be opportunities to learn from our existing FFT sites in Norfolk and Suffolk and the whole project will be programme managed by an experienced FFT Supervisor and Systemic Family Therapist.The 3 teams will be jointly trained and there will be opportunities to share experiences and learn new skills with your colleagues.

The postholder will oversee the delivery of a high-quality specialist service for families with young people who meet the criteria set down by the research trial in accordance with the Youth Endowment Fund's expectations and conditions of the grant. Referrals will be identified primarily by reviewing MASH data in collaboration with an identified lead in the Borough and offering case consultations with referrers in social care, YOT, and early help services. The postholder is expected to work autonomously within agreed professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the effective governance of psychological and systemic practice within the service. In particular, the postholder is expected to ensure that all FFT-G Workers adhere to the principles of the FFT-G model in how case interventions are conceptualised, devised and delivered, including how risks are managed and mitigated. The postholder will be responsible for securing and maintaining a clear referral pathway in collaboration with Borough stakeholders. The post involves sessions carried out in the home environments of clients, which may result in exposure to unpleasant conditions, associated with offending behaviour, abuse and/or neglect. This involves possible exposure to difficult family situations, verbal aggression and violence or abuse of all kinds. Working hours can vary, and some evening sessions will be required to meet the availability of families.
