Job summary

You will be working as part of our specialist Fast Track Home Care service, providing individualised care and support to patients with complex health needs due to life-limiting illness. Your work will focus on:

Main duties of the job

Supporting patients with personal care such as washing, dressing, continence care and mobility needs, while encouraging independence where possible.

Delivering compassionate emotional support to patients and their families during periods of uncertainty, decline, or after death.

Working closely with Registered Nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to identify changes in a patient’s condition and ensure appropriate actions are taken quickly.

Maintaining clear, accurate and timely records using our electronic system (SystmOne).

Assisting with safe use of equipment and following infection control and health & safety protocols in each home setting.

Saint Catherine’s Hospice is looking to recruit to the Fast Track Home Care team with experienced Health Care Assistants (HCAs). Working in the heart of the community, you will deliver high-quality end-of-life care to patients in their own homes, helping to ensure they receive dignity, comfort, and compassion in familiar surroundings.

About the Role

What we are looking for:

We’re looking for Health Care Assistants who can deliver care that is not only clinically competent but also empathetic and person-centred. You will:

  • Have experience working in health or social care, ideally in palliative, end-of-life or domiciliary settings.
  • Be emotionally resilient, with the ability to support families going through distressing and complex situations.
  • Be organised, adaptable and able to manage your own time effectively while working across various community locations.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a warm and professional approach to patient care.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence to enable use of company vehicles – this role requires regular travel to patients’ homes across Scarborough and surrounding areas, sometimes at short notice.
