Job summary

Specialist palliative care inpatient beds. There are approximately 190 admissions per year with an average length of stay of 9.5 days.

2 nurse-led inpatient beds for patients in their last days of life wishing to transfer from the acute hospital

Renovation work ongoing to offer fee-paying respite inpatient beds, starting with a pilot project of 2 beds

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership and specialist palliative medicine support to Saint Catherine’s Hospice and the community 

To promote a culture of continuous improvement and integrate clinical governance within practice

To actively participate in the clinical governance structures at the hospice

To actively participate and lead in current and future audit and research projects. Commercial and other research projects take place in the hospice and are encouraged with good links and support from the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre in Hull. 

About us

At Saint Catherine's we offer individualised, specialist care that takes a holistic approach. From managing patient’s pain and other physical symptoms through to supporting psychological, social and spiritual wellbeing, we aim to achieve the best quality of life for the patient, family and carers.

Around half of our patients are learning to live with cancer and the remainder have a diagnosis from a wide range of other illnesses such as heart disease; respiratory conditions; end stage kidney and liver disease and neurological illnesses.

Our ethos focusses on delivering holistic patient centred care, whilst also supporting families and carers. As a Hospice rated Good by the CQC, we promote high quality care which enables our patients to live as well as possible, to be cared for and supported, and make the most of every day.
