Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the friendly, dynamic, multi-disciplinary team at the Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse as our Practice Improvement Adviser (PIA) focussing on health settings. This is a high-level practice improvement role leading on the development, management and delivery of programmes, strategies and training initiatives to improve the identification of and response to child sexual abuse in health settings across England and Wales.

Main duties of the job

As our Practice Improvement Adviser (Health), you will be working alongside a team of PIAs from a range of professional backgrounds and will take particular responsibility for developing and leading the CSA Centre's approach to improving the response to sexual abuse in health settings. This will include:

  • Working with a range of stakeholders to develop a national, strategic approach (across England and Wales) to improving the identification and response to sexual abuse;
  • Engaging with key stakeholders to raise the profile of the CSA Centre across health settings in England and Wales;
  • Developing the CSA Centre's approach to influencing training for the health workforce (e.g. primary care, mental health, health visiting, school nursing, sexual health) including designing and delivering training where appropriate;
  • Developing proposals for new resources to support the response to child sexual abuse across health, drawing on your own understanding of current gaps and opportunities to improve practice in this area;
  • Leading on the dissemination of existing CSA Centre resources and research, to health settings across England and Wales;
  • Providing health expertise to a range of ongoing CSA Centre initiatives across our ambitious workplan, including the implementation of our child sexual abuse response pathway and related practice resources (http://www.csacentre.org.uk/knowledge-in-practice/practice-improvement/).

Job Purpose:

To lead the formulation, development and implementation of transformational change in the response to child sexual abuse in England and Wales, by developing, managing and delivering strategies, plans and training initiatives, and managing partner relationships at a high level in relevant professional fields.

Key Responsibilities

  • Being a strategic leader and ambassador for the CSA Centre, supporting delivery of its vision and purpose with a particular focus on improving the quality of responses to children, young people and families.
  • Discovering and developing good or emerging practice, research and/or new professional developments addressing child sexual abuse.
  • Building knowledge, practice and partnerships nationally which help individuals and services to better address child sexual abuse.
  • Furthering national and international evidence of good practice in the response to child sexual abuse.
  • Assisting the Deputy Directors and Director of the CSA Centre in developing the CSA Centre nationally and internationally.
  • Scoping and developing the CSA Centres understanding of local, regional and national expertise, needs and gaps in current and emerging professional and community practices in response to child sexual abuse.
  • Showing outstanding leadership in driving improved practice in response to child sexual abuse.

  • Support practice development, evaluation or research activities relevant to the CSA Centres aims.
  • Devise and be accountable for the delivery of specific practice improvement initiatives, ensuring they are aligned to the overall strategic direction and vision of the CSA Centre.
  • Develop and deliver training initiatives for a range of audiences.
  • Gather and collate sector intelligence to benefit the wider work of the CSA Centre e.g., input to policy work and research development.
