Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a senior practitioner to join the North Cumbria Mental Health Support Teams (MHST).

Are you a practitioner who is trained in lowintensity CBT or high intensity CBT who is passionate about supporting other staff by offering clinical supervision alongside continuing to work therapeutically with children and young people in education settings, to support their emotional health and wellbeing? If, yes, then this role is for you!

We wish to appoint someone who wants to make a difference to the emotional wellbeing of children and young people in schools. We're seeking mental health professionals who have direct experience of working with evidence-based therapies in child mental health. The role involves offering supervision to other qualified staff and providing therapeutic support to children, young people and their parent-carers and working in partnership with education settings.

Main duties of the job

The post holders will provide supervision including clinical skills /clinical case management / operational supervision for the Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) working in the service. If applicants do NOT have the required supervision course qualification, they will need to attend the course as part of their role. It is an essential part of the role that staff complete the required supervision course to enable their ability to work as EMHP supervisors. Therefore it will require the successful candidates to attend Northumbria University in January 2027 to attend a Post Graduate level course in supervision and/or if applicants who are qualified EMHPs to join the Senior Wellbeing Practitioner course at Northumbria university.

The post-holders will work under supervision across a range of education settings to deliver high-quality, evidence-based early interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health needs. Senior Practitioners play a key role as members of the Mental Health Support Teams, and have responsibility for delivering whole school approach activities to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for children and young people. You will be employed by Barnardos as a Project Worker 3 post. In this role you will support and provide a high-quality service to children and young people (and their families) who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. This will be done through; direct delivery of evidence based interventions (low intensity CBT) to support the recovery of children and young people referred to the service, the utilisation of skills and knowledge of CBT and child and adolescent mental health practice, and through your knowledge of whole school approaches to mental health. You will be involved in offering supervision to EMHPS. This work will be in accordance with clinical governance processes and professional standards. The post holders will receive clinical supervision and will report to the Team Manager and will be accountable to the Childrens Service Manager.

Essential

  • You must NOT have accessed an CYP-IAPT funded training programme within 2 years of January 2027.
  • Completion of a Low Intensity Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (LICBT) postgraduate qualification (e.g. EMHP training) with at least 2 years post qualification clinical experience by January 2027, or completion of a High Intensity Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (HICBT) postgraduate qualification that meets eligibility for BABCP accreditation (e.g. IAPT PG Certificate in CBT) with 2 years post qualification clinical experience by January 2027.
  • Clinical supervision training/qualification (e.g. CYP IAPT Supervision
  • Skills) or ability to attend identified training once in
  • employment.
  • Registered/ accredited with the BABCP.
