North Cumbria Mental Health Support Team Carlisle/Eden x 1 and Allerdale/Copeland x 1

In line with the government's priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people, opportunities have arisen for Senior Practitioners to deliver evidence-based early interventions for children and young people as part of the North Cumbria Mental Health Support Team

The North Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) commissioned Barnardo's in 2020 to provide the MHST's and additional funding will extend the provision in September 2023. This will see the team in Carlisle and Allerdale be extended to cover Eden and Allerdale.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a practitioner with the vision and expertise to make a difference to the lives of children and young people. The successful candidate will be offered an educational programme designed specifically for this role.

You will be employed by Barnardo's as a Project Worker 3. In this role you will support and provide a high-quality service to children and young people (and their families) who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. This will be done through; direct delivery of evidence-based interventions to support the recovery of children and young people referred to the service, the utilisation of skills and knowledge of CBT and child and adolescent mental health practice, and through your knowledge of whole school approaches to mental health. This work will be in accordance with clinical governance processes and professional standards.

Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) are a national programme jointly delivered with the Department for Education, NHS England and Health Education England. The programme has three core functions:

  • Delivering evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs
  • Supporting the senior mental health lead in each education setting to introduce or develop their whole school/college approach
  • Giving timely advice to school and college staff, and liaising with external specialist services, to help children and young people to get the right support and stay in education
