An opportunity has arisen for an experienced, creative, reflective and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our interdisciplinary team and lead the OT department.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience and interest in working in the field of Acquired Brain Injury. You will lead our team of experienced OTs, offering specialist rehabilitation.
Shaftesbury Icanho is a highly specialist, community-based brain injury rehabilitation service with its base in Stowmarket, Suffolk. The service is run by the national charity Shaftesbury, and commissioned by the local ICBs.
The interdisciplinary team (IDT) at Shaftesbury Icanho works with adults who have had an acquired brain injury, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, infection, hypoxia and tumour. The IDT is a highly skilled, warm and friendly team of Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Clinical Psychologists, Social Worker and Rehabilitation Assistants.
Our clinical work is undertaken in a highly integrated way, with Occupational Therapy an integral and valued part of that team. We work with people in our purpose-built centre, in clients homes and in the community based on need.
This post holder will be responsible for ensuring the efficient running of the OT service in our main Stowmarket base, and in our satellite service in Bungay which operates 2 days/week.
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist occupational therapy (OT) assessment and interventions for rehabilitation of clients following the consequences of Acquired Brain Injury at Shaftesbury Icanho, Stowmarket, and at the Bungay satellite service as required.
To establish good working links/network with other relevant services/universities, and to act as a highly specialist resource to the wider professional community.

Shaftesbury Icanho is a non-residential highly specialist community based brain injury rehabilitation service with its main base in Stowmarket, Suffolk (within 60 minutes drive of Cambridge or Colchester and 30 minutes away from Ipswich or Bury St Edmunds).
The service is run by the national charity Shaftesbury. Shaftesbury Icanhos client base is 100% acquired brain injury. Our clinical work is undertaken as an interdisciplinary team and Occupational Therapy is an integral and valued part of that team. We work with people in our purpose built centre, in clients homes and in the community based on need.

To provide highly specialist OT consultation, supervision and advice to other disciplines, and ensure that the clinical team has access to a model/ framework for understanding and care of clients, through the provision of advice and consultation and the dissemination of relevant research and theory.
To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on relevant aspects of risk assessment and risk management; and to comply with Shaftesbury/Icanho Health and Safety policies in order to ensure that a safe working environment is maintained for clients, carers, staff and visitors.
To develop and take part in educational sessions for carers, families and other agencies as required, and participate in internal education, case reviews and peer support.
To take an active role in the process of CPD, both in maintaining a personal CPD log and providing post-qualification training (CPD) to other members of the team as appropriate. This will include maintaining knowledge and skills relevant to OT, and clinical supervision.
To use computer based tools of analysis, spread sheets, data bases and statistical packages as necessary, and ensure accurate information for data collection.
To be aware of relevant development and research in the field of brain injury rehabilitation locally, nationally and internationally; and ensure that all OTs at Icanho use theory, evidence based literature and research to support evidence based practice in their work.
