We are looking for a Finance Manager to join our supportive and collaborative Finance Team as part of a job share arrangement, taking lead responsibility for P&L and day to day accounting. This is a key role supporting the Director of Finance and Resources to deliver a highquality, responsive finance service that underpins excellent patient care, strong governance and longterm sustainability.

About the role

In this role, youll help ensure The Kirkwoods resources are managed with integrity, clarity and care. Youll be responsible for daytoday financial accounting, maintaining robust P&L integrity, and coordinating the capital programme for both the charity and its trading subsidiary

Youll work closely with colleagues across the organisationhelping teams understand the financial impact of their work. Youll also play an important role in yearend processes, Gift Aid and VAT, asset and restricted fund management, coordination of the Capital Programme Budget.

As part of a job share, youll work collaboratively to ensure continuity of service, shared accountability and flexible working across the week.

Main duties of the job

About you

Youll be a qualified accountant (or bring equivalent demonstrable experience) with a strong background in financial accounting and statutory reporting. Youll be confident working in a regulated environment and comfortable balancing financial rigour with compassion and empathyparticularly in a hospice setting where the human impact of financial decisions really matters.

Just as important as your technical skills ishowyou work. Youll be someone who:

Experience of charity or notforprofit finance, Charity SORP, or working in a hospice or healthcare environment would be welcomed, but were equally interested in your values, mindset and willingness to learn.

Primary Responsibilities

Financial Accounting

  • Production of the financial schedule to meet statutory and internal reporting requirements.

  • Ensuring that accruals and prepayments are accounted for to theappropriate reportingperiods.

  • Completing year-end procedures including year-end postings and year-end reports.

  • Ensuring that all records (financial and otherwise) andappropriate controlsaremaintainedin accordance withThe Kirkwoods policy and legal obligations.

  • Managing the production of Gift Aid claims for submission to HMRC at least quarterly.

  • Ensure that our VAT liability has been paid over to HMRCin a timely mannerfor both the charity and its subsidiary.

  • Providing support and advice to departments on the implications of VAT and Gift Aid.

  • Assist the DFR and working with Finance colleagues to develop internal control systems to ensure compliance of procedures with statutory requirements and auditors recommendations.

  • Work with the Income Generation Teams in developing systems to record income received,allocatingto correct income stream.

Financial Planning and Reporting

  • Assisting the Director of Finance & Resources (DFR) and working with the Finance Business Partner with the preparation of the annual budget for approval by Trustees.

  • Producing ad hoc financial information and reports throughout the year as requested, attending meetings to present these, ifrequired.

  • Maintainan accurateand up to date contracts register by recording,reviewingandmonitoringall contract details, values, key dates, compliancerequirementsand variations to support financial control, governance and informed decision making.

Asset Management

  • Capital Budget Programme lead the capital programme of expenditure ensuring a coordinated approach with budget holders across the charity to make sure spend is within budgeted limits andallocatedeffectively.

  • Restricted Income Schedules Maintain detailed schedules tracking all restricted funds, ensuring restricted funds balances are reconciled and reflected in year-end statutory reporting andin accordance withthe Charities SORP.

  • Grants Maintain detailed schedules tracking all grants funding, ensuring compliance with the Charities SORP.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Provide line management and day-to-day leadership for Finance Team members as directed (excluding the Finance Business Partner).

  • Create a supportive, inclusive team environment that encourages learning,innovationand continuous improvement.

  • Ensure business continuity arrangements are in place tomaintainservice delivery.
