Job summary

To work as a member of theTheKirkwoods In-Patient Unit team,assistingnursing staff to provide a high standard of direct nursing care to patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

Youll provide a nursing support role, working within a skilled, multi-disciplinary team, effectively communicating with patients, visitors and colleagues to help to maintain patient wellbeing and comfort.

Youll have experience working in a caring environment, which could come from working in peoples homes, care homes or clinical settings, for example. Youll have NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent, and be able to work effectively in a varied team, to ensure care is carried out effectively and efficiently, whilst always maintaining a caring, compassionate approach.

Role Summary

Primary Responsibilities

  • To carry out nursing carein accordance withhospice policy, individual care plans and patient wishes

  • To work with the multidisciplinary teamassistingall members to achieve a high standard of care for patients and their families.

  • To develop good communications with the patient and their family, passing on all relevant information to the Primary Nurse / Nurse in Charge giving emotionalsupportas necessary.

  • To inform the Primary Nurse / Nurse in Charge of any change inthe patients condition.

  • To liaise with other hospice staff as necessary tomaintainthe comfort and well-being of the patient.

  • Torespect the privacy and dignity of the patient at all times.

  • To accurately communicate telephone messages to or from the Primary Nurse / Senior Staff Nurse.

  • To adhere to agreed procedures for the care and custody of patients valuables and property.

  • To escort patients as requested by the Primary Nurse / Nurse in Charge.

  • To exercise care and economy in the use and maintenance of hospice property and equipment, reporting any faults as per hospice policy.

  • To be involved in verbal and written reports, under the supervision of the Primary Nurse ensuring all communications are of a high standard.

  • To relay queries or concerns of any visitor to the Primary Nurse / Nurse in Charge.

  • To respect confidentialityregardingall patient and hospice information.

  • Toassistwith the promotion ofgood staffmorale, giving support and help to others asappropriate.
