HCA with Phlebotomy / Skilled Phlebotomist (15mth fixed term)

Job summary

We are looking for a HCA with phlebotomy qualifications or a skilled phlebotomist to join our team.

We currently support the patients of Bexley by providing home visits to undertake Long Term Conditions annual reviews on housebound patients and also support with GP based phlebotomy clinics. We are looking for a dynamic member who can join our team and support one or both of these services.

The key skill required here is to perform venepuncture to obtain blood samples and if a HCA collect other required samples/undertake tests, based upon need and as requested from the GP Practice. This role will support the GP Practices with undertaking annual reviews for house bound patients living with Long Term Conditions such as Diabetes, Asthma, COPD and Dementia. Working strictly in accordance with guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients and other required tests, only as the result of a direct referral from a GP Practice. If applying as a phlebotomist the role will be to provide phlebotomy clinics across a number of surgeries within the Bexley borough.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible
  • Collection and recording of blood samples in accordance with training and procedures
  • Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion
  • Collection of other annual review tests and sampling as per requirement
  • Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff
  • Notifying the GP/practice staff of any significant patient issues
  • Work effectively within the phlebotomy team and admin team
  • Report any clinical or environmental issues of concern and take actions
  • Ensure a working knowledge and compliance with Policies and Procedures

Bexley Health Neighbourhood Care (BHNC) is a GP Federation supporting the 20 Bexley Practices / 4 PCNs , Erith Hospital and Queen Marys Urgent Treatment Centre who are working collaboratively to enhance the health and wellbeing of Bexley residents, covering over 260,000 patients.

· Collection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and procedures

· Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
