HCA with Phlebotomy (Mobile role throughout Bexley Borough)

Job description

Job responsibilities

· Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample

· Collection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and procedures

· Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers

· Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity

· Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible

· Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with procedure

· Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.

· Collection of other annual review tests and sampling as per requirement of each Long Term Condition

· Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff

· Notifying the GP/practice staff of any significant patient issues

· Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team

· Work effectively within the phlebotomy team and alongside the reception/admin team

· Report any clinical or environmental issues of concern and take action to rectify these where appropriate

· Ensure a working knowledge and compliance with Policies and Procedures

· Understand the importance and adhere to infection control issues

· Keep clinical areas clean and free from clutter.

· Input information into the clinical system as appropriate following appropriate training.

· Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Policy on information governance.

· Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions and development, either directly or under supervision.

· Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the teams performance.

· Participate in continuing professional development, education, and training to keep up to date with evidence based knowledge and competence in all aspects of the role, for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and a Personal Development Plan (PDP).

· Adhere to organisational policies and procedures, including confidentiality, safeguarding, information governance, health and safety and quality & risk management

· Liaise with other departments and members of the Bexley Health Neighbourhood Care and other organisations to ensure the smooth running of the role to assisting the functioning of the PCN team.

· Work within BHNC policies and procedures.

Essential

• Candidates must have a full driving license and be prepared to
• travel in and around patients homes within London Borough of
• Bexley

Communication skills

Essential

• Candidates must have excellent inter personal skills, be superb
• communicators both written and verbally. They will have a real
• focus on service and quality with an eye for detail and accuracy.

Qualifications

Essential

• NVQ Health and Social Care Level 2
• Candidates must be professionally qualified phlebotomists
• Evidence of infection prevention control, basic life support, moving
• and handling and all statutory and mandatory training modules

Desirable

• Trained to deliver Basic First Aid
• Trained to collect health data for the purpose of diabetes annual review
• Completed NVQ Level 3 or Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care / HCA

Experience

Essential

• Have recent experience in various venepuncture techniques
• (vacutainer, butterfly etc.) and be able to collect samples in non
• clinical setting
• Have experience of working as a HCA in annual review clinics

Desirable

• Trained in Diabetes and Respiratory
