Job responsibilities
Acorns Children's Hospice Trust are looking for a Young Person Worker to join our Family Services Teams in our Birmingham Hospice. The Young Person Worker will be an advocate for young people, champion the provision of services and support with their preparation for adulthood.
About the Role
At Acorns Childrens Hospice, we care for babies, children and young people up to 18 years and support their families. Our teams provide a range of specialist care services for life-limited and life-threatened children across our region. It is estimated that for every child with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, five family members will be directly impacted. Our aim at Acorns is to help families feel equipped to cope at every stage of their childs life with dedicated teams offering psychological, emotional and practical support.
As a Young Person Worker, you will be an advocate for the needs of young people within the hospice environment. Youll work with the young person, listening to their goals and aspirations and help them to prepare for adulthood and transition. Youll give young people a voice in the organisation, seeking feedback from them and delivering new initiatives to meet their needs.
Youll work with the Young Person Workers in our two other hospices, to meet organisational objectives and to share best practice. Youll plan, develop and deliver a strategy that achieves operational objectives including creating individual and group therapeutic-based support systems and Young Person Interest Forums.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of services for young people, assisting in the delivery of a range of training programmes, participation in outreach work and contribution to service evaluation.
About You
You will be professionally qualified to degree level in a field such as Social Work, Community Nursing, Youth Work, Counselling or Play Therapy. You will have experience of organising and implementing programmes of activity for young people and of providing therapeutic based support to them.
Youll need to be able to travel around the Acorns region independently and some evening and weekend work will be required to meet the needs of the young people.

- £31,571 per annum (pro rata), plus allowances (additional £1181 per annum)

You need to be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role. We are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and therefore any successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check for children and will be asked to provide two satisfactory references.
