Acorns Childrens Hospice Trust are looking for a Matron for our Birmingham Hospice to provide expert leadership to the hospice care team and be accountable for the delivery of high-quality care, uphold professional standards and provide assurance to families and the organisation.
About the Role
Established in 1988, Acorns Children's Hospice Trust is a registered charity, based in Birmingham. We provide palliative care, end of life care and symptom management for life limited/life threatened babies, children and young people up to 18 years and support their families.
As Matron, you will be an active member of our Care Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and accountable for the delivery of high-quality care within the hospice. Youll work with your Deputy Matron and use your expert decision making and clinical judgement to uphold professional standards, develop the team and provide assurance to families and the organisation.
The Matron, as the Registered Manager, will be highly visible, accessible and have an authoritative presence within the hospices clinical areas, to which children and their families and others can turn for assistance, advice and support.
The Matrons role will focus on:
- Improving clinical care standards in conjunction with the Senior Care Team
- Ensuring best practice in infection control is undertaken in all defined clinical areas.
- Ensure safe staffing levels are maintained and the workforce objectives are reviewed, and actions taken to maintain these.
- Work in conjunction with the Senior Care Team to have oversight of off duty schedules across sites.
- Being responsible, in conjunction with the Care SLT Leads and Care Executive Directors, for the delivery and implementation of local and national initiatives.
- Providing leadership to the professional and direct care teams across all clinical areas.
- Ensuring that senior nursing teams are empowered and enabled to enhance service delivery. Using evidence-based practice/techniques to highlight that the above roles are delivering an increased quality in the delivery of care.
About You
You will be a registered child nurse, with a recognised management or leadership qualification and extensive experience of paediatric nursing. Youll have experience of supporting families who have experienced loss or bereavement.
Youll be leading a large, multi-disciplinary team of team leaders, nurses and care assistants, so previous management experience is essential. Youll be highly IT literate, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
