Job summary

St Lukes is seeking a strategic, commercially astute and valuesdriven Head of Retail to lead and develop our retail estate and ecommerce activity. Reporting to the Chief Executive & Chief Nurse, and as a member of the Operational Leadership Team, the postholder will provide clear strategic direction, strong commercial leadership and robust operational oversight across all retail channels. The role is accountable for maximising net retail income to support hospice care, driving sales growth through donated stock and Gift Aid, and ensuring high standards of governance, compliance and sustainability. This is a senior leadership position for an experienced retail professional who can balance commercial performance with compassion, ethical practice and community impact.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Retail is responsible for developing and delivering an ambitious retail strategy aligned to St Lukes incomegeneration and organisational objectives. The postholder will provide commercial leadership across all shops and ecommerce activity, with full accountability for income, expenditure, budgets and net contribution. Key duties include leading and motivating paid staff and volunteers, ensuring operational excellence across all retail locations, maximising Gift Aid participation, and embedding strong health & safety, safeguarding and governance arrangements. The role also champions environmental sustainability, ensuring charity retail supports responsible consumption and community engagement. As a member of the Operational Leadership Team, the postholder contributes to wider organisational strategy and performance.
