Job summary

The Estates Operative (Porter) at St Lukes Hospice plays a key role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and dignified environment for patients, families, and staff. Combining practical operational tasks with sensitive support duties, the role involves portering, basic maintenance, event setup, and mortuary support. This position ensures smooth day-to-day operations across our sites, supporting the delivery of compassionate care throughout the hospice.

Main duties of the job

The Estates Operative provides hands-on assistance across the hospice, including transporting patients, equipment, and supplies; setting up rooms and public areas; supporting waste management and fleet maintenance; performing basic maintenance tasks; and assisting with events. In addition, the role includes mortuary duties, ensuring deceased patients are handled with dignity and liaising sensitively with families and funeral directors. The postholder contributes to health, safety, and compliance, completing statutory checks and supporting risk assessments, while working collaboratively across teams to ensure smooth operations.
