Halton Haven Hospice is seeking a Clinical Nurse Educator, an inspiring clinician educator who will champion high quality learning, empower our staff and volunteers, and help us continue delivering exceptional hospice and end of life care.

As our Clinical Nurse Educator, you will be at the heart of how we develop our people. You will play a key role in enhancing the clinical learning environment and promoting quality patient care through education, support and continuous professional development.

Main duties of the job

Youll ensure our staff are confident, competent and compassionate and youll help extend our reach by supporting external partners in the wider community.

  • Develop and deliver innovative training programmes, competency study days and group/individual education sessions.
  • Provide expert teaching on communication skills and other hospice training courses.
  • Embed high standards of learning, development and assessment into daily clinical practice.
  • Work alongside clinical teams to understand real world needs and support clinical practice.
  • Support induction, preceptorship, and newly qualified colleagues.
  • Help shape our annual training calendar for staff and volunteers.
  • Generate reports and insights to guide future development plans.
  • Support local nursing and care homes with palliative and end of life education

  • Contribute to the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective training service within the Education & Training budget.

Job responsibilities

To promote quality patient care through the continued enhancement of the clinical learning environment

providing support, educational input and development activities for staff, volunteers, and students.

To enhance the delivery of palliative care to external stakeholders.

Liaise with clinical departmental leads to understand annual competency training requirements and work with external providers to meet the current and future needs of the Hospice in terms of competence, staff development and professional growth.

To develop competency study days and work with digital platforms to maintain competency register of clinical staff.,

Keep up to date with developments in training relevant to hospice/healthcare/palliative care/end of life, together with new technologies and methodologies in learning and development.

Support clinical managers with the annual career conversation process, provide advice on appropriate training opportunities, and signoff of clinical competencies.

To develop study days that can be promoted to external stake holders.

To support with Mayfly and advanced communication skills courses for the hospice.

To create the opportunity to liaise and support nursing and care homes to support the care delivery of palliative patients in the community, teaching within the locality on recognition of the deteriorating patients, the dying process and care after death.

Conduct own research and work with other Hospices, the NHS and similar organisations to develop and share best practice to support team and individual learning.

Contribute towards the production and promotion of a training calendar of events for staff and volunteers.

Design and deliver group & individual training sessions, promoting evidence-based practice and assisting in the development of new and improved practices.

Liaise with the Education Team to ensure appropriate and up to date training provision via the Hospice e-learning system.

Ensure the standards and values required for learning, development and assessment are embedded and maintained into everyday clinical practice.

Work alongside clinical colleagues to gain a thorough insight into the requirements of the roles across the Hospice teams, to support ongoing clinical practice, and enable informed recommendations for clinical training needs.

Actively participate in relevant internal and external service meetings as required.

Oversee the planning and support processes for newly qualified clinical colleagues and those on placement from university / NHS trusts.

Support Hospice senior managers with quality assurance and clinical audit requirements.

Support induction and preceptorship process.

Ensure accurate and up to date training records are maintained through effective partnership with the head of Education.

Generate statistics and reports on learning and development activities as and when required, including course evaluation to inform future planning.

Be aware of the need to provide a value for money service, operating within the Education & Training budget, and working with Executive team to ensure the most cost-effective training solutions are sourced.
