Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a Head of JustB Adult Services to lead, manage, develop and monitor the delivery of all Adult Services, projects and contracts. You will be experienced in delivering high quality bereavement counselling and mental health services. You will ensure the provision of high quality and ethical service delivery in line with statutory and regulatory bodies/frameworks and the agreed NYHC strategy. You will be an effective and supportive leader to the JustB Adult team.

Main duties of the job

Alongside the management and development of JustB Adult Services, other key responsibilities will include leading on networking and partnership work, monitoring and reviewing the level of risk held within the team (safeguarding), manage the budget for Adult Services and be a member of the Leadership Support Group.

You will provide effective line management and support ongoing professional development, including facilitating regular contact meetings and appraisals.

Working days will be Monday to Friday and include one late evening a week. You will be part of a telephone supervision rota which will include providing cover one weekend every 5 weeks.

The successful candidate will be based at both Harrogate and Thirsk sites and therefore needs to be comfortable commuting between sites on any given working day. This may include travelling at short notice to support service need.

To work with the Director of Client Services to translate the strategic vision for JustB Adult Services into operational delivery, taking responsibility for driving service transformation and to provide outstanding operational leadership.

Key Tasks:

Service management

1. To lead, manage, monitor and develop the provision of all JustB Adult services, projects and contracts in line with NYHC strategy.

2. To lead on the growth and development of Adult Services. To ensure high quality service delivery in an ethical and effective manner in line with statutory and regulatory bodies/frameworks and the agreed NYHC strategy.

3. To lead on the development and implementation of the JustB Adult service workplan, in line with the agreed budget and funding streams.

4. To work closely and collectively with the Head of Just B CYP and Helpline Services to ensure effective joined up working and robust transitional arrangements

5. To ensure consistent evaluation of the quality and delivery of Adult services; reporting on service outcomes, evidencing service activity and recommending service developments.

6. To ensure all Non-clinical incidents for Adult Services are fully reported and investigated with resulting actions completed as soon as possible.

7. To ensure all communications with external parties, including commissioners and contractors, are held by the appropriate party in a timely and effective way to allow sustainability and growth of funding streams.

8. To facilitate regular reviews of existing contracts and funded projects, working closely with the Trusts and Contracts Teams to establish new funding opportunities.

9. To recruit, motivate and manage members of the team in an empowering management style, conducting regular contact meetings and appraisals and identifying any training needs. To offer supervision when required.

10. To carry a case load of clients as required.

11. To lead the JustB Adult team to work collaboratively with other members of North Yorkshire Hospice Care, external professionals and other organisations to enable the best possible continuity and support for all clients

12. To lead and further develop the delivery of the JustB Respond Service to organisations, schools and other education establishments who have experienced the sudden death of a colleague or student. To co-ordinate a swift response to all requests. To document procedures to support the service and provide information to service users as required.

13. To be part of an 8am 8pm 7 day rota providing supervision to call handlers and support workers on the helplines and proactive calls services as required. To include weekend cover.

14. To act as a spokesperson for NYHC as required working closely with the Communications Team Strategic

15. To lead on relevant networking and partnership work, building links within communities, sectors and other Adult Bereavement and Counselling Services. To offer consultation to external professionals and organisations as required.

16. To join relevant, external networks, forums and groups ensuring our Adult services remain involved in developments in Mental Health provision. Governance

17. To be responsible for monitoring and reviewing the level of risk (safeguarding/cause for concern) held within the Adult services team. To ensure emphasis is placed on high quality safeguarding practice across all Adult services ensuring children, young people and adults at risk are safe and concerns are escalated appropriately.

18. To ensure records kept by Adult Services meet NYHC guidelines, professional standards and standards set by appropriate statutory bodies.

19. To maintain, co-ordinate and update all policies, processes and guidelines appertaining to JustB activity; ensuring good and safe practice in line with organisational policies Budgetary

20. To develop, manage and monitor the JustB Adult Service budget. To be responsible for the income and expenditure of these services in line with agreed budget, working with the Finance Team as necessary.

21. To support and contribute, delegating where approriate, to the audit programme for Adult Services.

22. To work with the Systems, Data and Research Manager, utilising new technology to enable more effective data capture and more reactive, accessible and dynamic services. Wider Organisational Responsibilities
