Job summary

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to work for Rethink Mental Illness as a Senior Health and Wellbeing Coach (SHWBC) within the secure forensic inpatient wards at Ridgeway, Roseberry Park Hospital. The role will form part of an Integrated Care Mental Health team, leading a team of Health and Wellbeing Coaches (HWBC) to deliver low level therapeutic interventions.

The post holder will provide coordination of duties, leadership and supervision whilst effectively engaging with Ridgeway managers, supporting with quality assurance processes, cultural development and team level activities to provide a high quality HWBC service.

The role will include empowering and enabling the HWBCs to deliver high quality care and to work alongside other professionals to support the mental health of the secure hospital population, ensuring HWBCs are confident and competent within their roles.

The Senior HWBC will model excellent care, supporting people with mental illnesses in the self-management of their recovery, building a professional relationship of trust in a non-judgmental manner with every client, as a basis for developing and enabling therapeutic relationships.

Rethink Mental Illness will work alongside Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) to pilot an Integrated Care Mental Health team with the postholder being co-located onsite at Ridgeway, Roseberry Park hospital, working directly onto the wards Monday to Friday 8.30am-4.30pm.

Strong knowledge of mental health presentations and experience supporting people 1:1 and in groups.

Experience supervising others or coordinating a team.

Experience using coaching, motivational interviewing or recovery focused approaches.

Confidence working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.

A calm, proactive approach to problem solving and difficult situations.

Relevant training or qualifications (e.g., mental health coaching, MI, peer support, recovery training).

Its a bonus if you also have:

Experience in secure environments or with people who have offending histories.

Health education qualifications (e.g., Mental Health First Aid).

Experience of coproduction.

Overview of the service or team:

Rethink Mental Illness are proud to work for Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) to provide low level therapeutic interventions alongside their skilled and specialist mental health teams.

Ridgeway at Roseberry Park Hospital is a secure hospital, caring for adults with a range of mental health and/or learning disabilities in a safe, caring and recovery focussed environment. The hospital wards are split into 4 groups, and as a Senior Health and Wellbeing Coach you coordinate the workloads of the Health and Wellbeing Coaches to ensure provision across these groups, cofacilitating or providing contingency cover as needed.

The team on the wards compromises a range of highly skilled professionals who work collaboratively to provide the highest quality of care for those with mental health needs within the hospital and for Rethink Mental Illness employees, this is carried out between 0830 1630 Monday to Friday.

Rethink Mental Illness staff will be fully integrated into the Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Trust team, providing a one team approach and a seamless care provision.

I lead, coordinate and support the team of Health and Wellbeing Coaches working in Ridgeway at Roseberry Park Hospital to work as part of the integrated mental health team to support the recovery and wellbeing of patients within Ridgeway at Roseberry Park Hospital, forming and maintaining effective relationships with NHS staff

I work closely with the Ridgeway managers to maintain a high quality wellbeing coach provision, with a proactive and solution focussed attitude

I provide supervision to the Health and Wellbeing Coaches

I support the Health and Wellbeing Coaches to work with the wider team to deliver psychologically informed interventions specifically psychoeducation, solution focussed care, motivational interviewing, CBT informed approaches and mental health coaching

Provide planned low level therapeutic interventions to assist patients with the day to day management of their wellbeing

Provide ad hoc support to patients to enable their engagement with a wider range of professionals

Provide ad hoc support to patients to enable and empower emotional regulation, coping strategies and insight into their presentations

I joint work to provide appropriate packages of care, e.g. joint activities with specialist clinicians

To work in a coaching manner, exploring ways of goal setting with people to help them achieve their ambitions.

I organise and facilitate group-based workshops and activities, ensuring self-help and peer support groups cover a flexible timetable.

I ensure a collaborative approach with the multi-disciplinary team, constructing and maintain professional and effective working relationships to gain the best person centred / recovery outcomes for the individual including excellent communication

I develop and facilitate service user forums as appropriate.

I engage with supervision, both from Rethink and the NHS as needed with an open, honest and meaningful attitude

I work with colleagues in Rethink Mental Illness to develop an engagement strategy for those in Ridgeway so that our work is co-produced and delivered by people affected by mental illness.

I ensure the highest standards of clinical record keeping, including electronic data entering and recording on relevant clinical systems and engaging with audits to continually improve my practice

I contribute to the development of the highest standard of professional practice within the service.

I contribute to the identification, management, and reduction of risk in the area of responsibility.

I report any incidents of harm or near miss in line with Rethink and NHS incident reporting policy ensuring appropriate actions are taken to reduce the risk of reoccurrence.

I complete monthly reporting to showcase our work and provide assurances to commissioners
