exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Medical Secretary with
excellent interpersonal skills to join our Team here at Springhill.
You
will be responsible, in conjunction with your job-share partner, for providing
an effective and efficient secretarial/administrative service to our team of
Doctors and Nursing Staff.
You
will be expected to act on your own initiative to organise, prioritise and
co-ordinate
your workload, ensuring that deadlines are met.
You
must have excellent word processing and administrative skills, as well as
previous experience of working within a clinical area in a similar role.
Excellent
communication and organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to
maintain confidentiality and communicate sensitively with a wide range of
people, either face to face or over the phone, in an appropriate and supportive
manner.

Main duties of the job
To provide an effective and efficient medical secretary
service for patient administration within the Hospice.
The post-holder would be required to
produce accurate, high quality medical correspondence for our medical team
using copy typing, templates and audio if required.
Some key

exhaustive. It would also be expected
that the post-holder would be available to carry out other administrative tasks
within other areas of the Hospice as required.
About us
This role is based at Springhill Hospice, Rochdale.
Springhill
Hospice provides the following palliative care services to the local adult
population who are suffering from the effects of life-limiting and terminal
illnesses:
A 16-bed Inpatient
unit providing 24-hour medical and nursing care.
Hospice at
Home Service - supports people who
want to end their days in their own home by providing the support and symptom
management they need to be able to do so.
A Day
Therapies Centre for up to 16 patients, 4-days-a-week, offering
complementary therapies (e.g. reflexology, aromatherapy and massage);
creative and beauty therapies, social activities and clinical support.
Community
Service - provides specialist
palliative care and support to patients and families in their own homes
A 24-hour Palliative
Care Advice Line for patients, families, carers and health professionals.
Bereavement Support for relatives following loss.
Counselling
Services for patients, carers and
relatives, provided by a qualified therapist.
An Education
Unit - an in-house training facility for hospice staff and local health and
social care professionals, with the main focus of training being on the
Springhill Palliative Care Education Passport' (SPCEP) which ensures that core
palliative care skills are taught to all grades of staff.

11.
Undertake
any other duties as appropriate to the role.
GENERAL
1.
Attend
team meetings as appropriate.

Maintain
excellent lines of communication internally with all visitors, staff and
volunteers; and externally with supporters within the local community.
3.
Participate
in the Hospices education/training programme, including mandatory training. Attend
training as required to maintain own knowledge and further develop expertise.
4.
All
staff have a duty to take reasonable care to avoid injury to themselves or to
others.
5.
To
read, understand and comply with all Hospice policies and procedures, applying the
principles as appropriate to role.
6.
To
be aware of individual specific responsibilities in respect of the Safeguarding
of Vulnerable Adults, in relation to role.
