An exciting opportunity has
arisen to work within the Springhill Hospice Specialist PalliativeCare Team covering Heywood,
Middleton and Rochdale.
We are looking to recruit
an enthusiastic and motivated individual. The ideal candidate will provide an overnight sitting service
for patients at the end of life.
The Night Sitter will
provide care, where appropriate and enable family members to take a break from
their caring duties in the knowledge that the patient is being closely
monitored and cared for in their own home. Previous experience of caring for patients with palliative
care needs and/or patients at the end of life is essential.
The successful candidate
will join a multi-disciplinary team providing specialist palliativecare and end of life care
to patients and families.

in the knowledge that the patient is being closely monitored and cared for in
their own home.

This role covers Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale.
Springhill
Hospice provides the following palliative care services to the local adult
population who are suffering from the effects of life-limiting and terminal
illnesses:
A 16-bed Inpatient
unit providing 24-hour medical and nursing care.
Hospice at
Home Service - supports people who
want to end their days in their own home by providing the support and symptom
management they need to be able to do so.
A Day
Therapies Centre for up to 16 patients, 4-days-a-week, offering
complementary therapies (e.g. reflexology, aromatherapy and massage);
creative and beauty therapies, social activities and clinical support.
Community
Service - provides specialist
palliative care and support to patients and families in their own homes
A 24-hour Palliative
Care Advice Line for patients, families, carers and health professionals.
Bereavement Support for relatives following loss.
Counselling
Services for patients, carers and
relatives, provided by a qualified therapist.
An Education
Unit - an in-house training facility for hospice staff and local health and
social care professionals, with the main focus of training being on the
Springhill Palliative Care Education Passport' (SPCEP) which ensures that core
palliative care skills are taught to all grades of staff.

DUTIES
2.1 To deliver care, as appropriate, and within
the scope of individual competency.
2.2 To provide emotional and psychological
support to patient and family.
2.3 To respond to any change in the patients
condition appropriately, calling on the support of the Hospice Nursing team,
District Nurses and/or General Practitioner/Bardoc, as required.
2.5 To maintain appropriate documentation in
respect of care given and any significant changes/interventions.
2.5 To provide effective handover following the
night sit to Community Liaison Nurse and the Hospice or SPCN during the
weekend.
EDUCATION
3.1 To attend Springhill Hospice Induction
Training programme, as required.
3.2 To attend Mandatory Training programmes and
on-line training as required.
PERSONNEL/COMMUNICATIONS
4.1 To report to senior Hospice staff as
appropriate.
4.2 To participate in the appraisal process.
4.3 To communicate effectively both verbally
and written.
4.4 To ensure confidentiality of patient and
family at all times.
4.5 To ensure excellent timekeeping.
4.6 To attend staff meetings.
GENERAL
1.1 Read, understand and comply with all
Hospice policies and procedures, applying the principles appropriate to the
role.
1.2 To be aware of individual specific
responsibilities in respect of the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults, in
relation to the role.
