Job summary

LOROS ambition is to be at the forefront of hospice research and teaching in the UK, undertaking work that improves care, is of local importance and has national and international impact. As a significant thought leader in the field of palliative and end of life care, the Centre for Excellence also seeks to facilitate debate and influence policy and practice on behalf of patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

This is a brilliant opportunity to elevate the standing of LOROS as an academic and clinical centre of innovation and excellence. It is the chance to facilitate debate and improve policy and practice on behalf of patients and their families as a significant thought leader in the field of palliative and end of life care. You will champion and advocate inclusive, accessible and equitable care for all, working with partners and communities to help address inequalities in the provision of palliative and end of life care.

Supported by excellent staff as well as colleagues in honorary and university roles, this is an incredibly exciting opportunity to establish a sustainable and focused research unit which is at the forefront of knowledge generation in relation to palliative and end of life care.

LOROS Hospice is a local charity and every year we care for over 2,500 people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We deliver free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill patients, their family and carers.

Job responsibilities

In this role you will lead the LOROS Centre for Excellence, ensuring that it delivers high quality teaching and research, develops as a locally, nationally and internationally recognised clinical hub for innovation and excellent practice in palliative and end of life care and works with partners and decision-makers to translate research into practice and deliver lasting improvements in patient care and services.

LOROS are looking for inspiring and collaborative individuals who bring;

*A significant track record of influencing stakeholders at a local/national level with the credibility to impact positively on policy and practice in palliative and end of life care.

*Well-developed understanding of the workings and decision-making processes of the health and social care sectors and aligned education and training providers.

*Outstanding interpersonal skills with the credibility, confidence and political acumen to collaborate with and influence key partners and decision-makers.

*Effective understanding of the role of research and education in evidence-based health and social care planning and practice.
