Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the medical practice team, offering face to face and telephone contact with patients and working alongside our friendly reception / care navigation team and the wider spread clinical and administrative staff.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role are to offer care navigation to patients, including appointment booking and triage, completing prescription requests, general office duties such as photocopying, filing and scanning letters.

About us

We are a long standing, busy Medical Practice with two sites at Renishaw and Eckington. We care for just under 5000 patients. The practice has an excellent team morale, we all work extremely hard within the busy environment to ensure the best care is provided to all our patients. Job description

Job responsibilities

The role involves daily face-to-face and telephone contact with patients, working within our friendly Reception & Care Navigation team. Supporting and liaising with our Admin and healthcare team.

You will be trained to:

  • Offer Care Navigation to patients, obtaining information in order to ensure you arrange the most appropriate care for patients.
  • Complete prescription requests.

You will also be involved in general office administration - processing tasks from clinical staff within the practice, scanning letters, filing, and photocopying.

We are looking for somebody who is flexible and adaptable; confident in computer use and with a passion for helping and supporting patients. The succesful applicant will be able to work unsupervised but also integrate into the wider team.

Full training can be provided by our current team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Good standard of Maths and English (Grade c/4) or able to demonstrate equivalent.
  • Friendly, calm and professional manner with patients at all times
  • Excellent spoken English and clear telephone manner
  • Reliable, punctual and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Confident using computers (appointments, email, basic data entry)
  • Able to handle confidential information appropriately
  • Resilient and able to remain polite under pressure
  • Willing to learn GP systems and processes
  • Excellent Communication skills

Desirable

  • Previous GP practice or NHS reception experience
  • Experience in a customer-facing role with high public contact
  • Care navigation or signposting experience
  • Knowledge of EMIS or similar clinical systems
  • Experience dealing with difficult or distressed people
  • Demonstrated long-term reliability in previous roles
  • Experience of working in an effective team
  • A good understanding of Safeguarding and confidentiality
  • An understanding of GDPR
