Main duties of the job
Greeting patients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner
Managing telephone calls and appointment bookings
Registering new patients and processing patient information
Handling prescription queries and administrative tasks
Supporting clinicians with general administrative duties
Maintaining patient confidentiality at all times
Using clinical systems such as EMIS (or similar)
Supporting the day-to-day running of reception
Requirements
Compassionate nature with excellent interpersonal skills
Previous experience in a healthcare or caring role is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Good organisational skills and attention to detail
Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion
Flexibility to work various shifts as needed

- Receive and assist patients in person and via telephone in a courteous, calm and professional manner
- Manage appointment bookings, cancellations and enquiries using the clinical computer system
- Signpost patients appropriately to clinicians, services or other healthcare professionals
- Process patient registrations, update records and maintain accurate patient information
- Handle prescription requests in line with practice procedures
- Deal with general administrative tasks including correspondence, scanning and filing
- Support clinicians and the wider practice team to ensure the smooth running of the surgery
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with data protection and information governance requirements
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment
- Adhere to all practice policies, procedures and NHS standards
