Job summary

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join our hardworking and welcoming GP Practice as a Receptionist, providing vital support and becoming an integral part of our dedicated Team. This is a part-time position, working 5 shifts per week (5.75 hours each), Monday to Friday, with a mix of morning and afternoon schedules.

In this part-time role, no two days are ever the same youll be helping patients, solving problems, and making a real difference in peoples lives. Alongside greeting patients, managing appointments, and handling enquiries with care, youll also take on some important administrative tasks that keep the practice running smoothly. It can be challenging at times, but youll be part of a team that works together, supports one another, and takes pride in delivering excellent patient care.

This role comes with full training, so no formal qualifications are required. However, previous experience in a GP practice would be preferential but what matters most is your enthusiasm, reliability, and willingness to learn.

Main duties of the job

What you will be doing day to day

As a GP Receptionist, you will be at the heart of our practice, making a real difference to patients and the team. Your role will be varied, rewarding, and sometimes challenging - but always important.

  • Be the first friendly face and voice patients encounter, whether welcoming them in person, answering the phone, or responding to emails.

  • Help patients feel supported by managing appointments, processing referrals, and guiding them through their healthcare journey.

  • Keep communication flowing between patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring everyone has the information they need.

  • Take on key admin tasks that keep the practice running smoothly, from handling queries to maintaining accurate records.

  • Champion safety and standards by following procedures, keeping the environment clean and safe, and supporting governance responsibilities.

  • Work closely with the Deputy Practice Manager to deliver excellent reception and administrative services, contributing to patient care and the wider success of the practice.

Desirable

  • Holds or is working towards an NVQ or BTEC in business administration, IT skills and/or health and social care.

Experience

  • Previous work experience within a customer facing environment.
  • Previous experience of working with customers from very diverse backgrounds.
