Job summary

We are a friendly, supportive NHS GP practice committed to delivering excellent patient care. As the first point of contact for our community, our reception team plays a vital role in shaping the patient experience. We are now looking for a warm, enthusiastic and motivated Receptionist / Patient Services Advisor to join our team.

Main duties of the job

This is a busy and rewarding role, including:

  • Handling incoming telephone calls and patient enquiries
  • Providing a welcoming, professional first point of contact
  • Booking appointments and managing patient requests
  • Supporting patients with empathy, patience and clear communication
  • Using clinical systems (full training provided)
  • Working closely with the wider practice team to keep the day running smoothly
  • Maintaining confidentiality and following practice policies

Essential

  • Good standard of general education (e.g., GCSEs or equivalent).
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Basic IT skills and confidence using computers.

Desirable

  • Customer service or administrative qualification.
  • Training or certificates in reception, call handling, or healthcare administration.
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Customer Service or Business Administration.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a customer-facing or administrative role e.g., reception, call handling, hospitality, retail, care.
  • Experience managing phone enquiries and dealing with the public.
  • Ability to use computer systems and learn new software q

Desirable

  • Experience working in a GP practice or healthcare setting
  • Experience using clinical systems such as EMIS SystmOne
  • Experience handling confidential information
