Job summary

Are you an organised, detail focused person with experience in clinical coding? Our busy but friendly GP practice is looking for someone just like you to help keep our patient records accurate and up to date.

You will play an important role in making sure our patients care is recorded correctly, helping us deliver the best service possible for our local community.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience in clinical coding and GP practice experience is essential.
  • Good understanding of medical terms.
  • Careful and methodical approach to work.

Main duties of the job

What you'll do:

  • Code medical records accurately using SNOMED CT.
  • Work with doctors and admin staff to keep patient information clear and consistent.
  • Help us meet NHS requirements and support important services like QOF.
  • Spot opportunities to improve our data and record keeping.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the Clinical Coder in delivering health services. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  1. Accurately clinically code data into the patient record on the clinical system
  2. Identifying relevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, coding appropriately and completing any detailed action
  3. Inputting and extracting data as required to support practice reports, audits and to capitalise upon both patient safety and QOF income.
  4. Scanning patient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patients healthcare records.
  5. Highlight all timely actions, changes to patient care and management to the relevant clinician
  6. File and store records as required.
  7. Photocopy/scan documentation as required.
  8. Action all correspondence, emails and mail in a timely manner.
  9. Input data into patients' healthcare records as necessary.

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
  • Completion of medical terminology course
