GP Receptionist

Job summary

The Microfaculty are looking for an enthusiastic addition to join our reception team following the retirement of a long-standing receptionist. The location for this post will be The Microfaculty Surgery

The successful applicant will be highly efficient and organised with excellent computer and communication skills, both oral and written. You will require good interpersonal skills and flexibility to tackle the different scenarios which may arise. Keyboard/computer skills essential. Applicants must have a flexible approach to working and be prepared to work additional hours, as and when required, to help cover periods of staff shortage.

Previous NHS experience is not essential but will definitely be an advantage. Only short-listed applicants will be notified.

We are open to different possible working hours. No weekend or bank holiday working.

First 3 months are on probation followed by a 1 year contract. If both parties are happy then this contract will be renewed every year

Main duties of the job

The following are the core responsibilities of the receptionist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Opening up/locking-up of Practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with Practice protocols
  • Maintaining and monitoring the Practice appointments system
  • Processing face to face and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring calls are dealt with in the appropriate manner
  • Effective care navigation of patient enquiries being able to appropriately sign post patients to the most appropriate clinician or service and identifying which patients need a GP appointment, nurse appointment and which can be dealt with administratively
  • Monitoring the flow of patients through the waiting room
  • Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with Practice procedures
  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers.
  • Using AccuRX texting system to send links and messages to patients as per practice protocols.
  • Keeping the reception area and waiting area free from obstructions and clutter.

About us

Our practice has just over 4400 patients.

We have 1 GP partners and 2 locum GPs. We also have 1 Nurse and 1 Healthcare Assistant as well as a range of ARRS staff from our pCN including a Clinical Pharmacist, Social Prescriber and First Contact Physiotherapist. Many of our staff have worked here for many years and we are a close-knit but friendly community of workers who are always willing to help each other to deliver the best patient care.

We are a training practice so we also host GP Registrars
