An opportunity has arisen for
an enthusiastic and highly motivated Practice Nurse to join our friendly and
busy team at Lightwater Surgery. We are
a proactive, progressive and well established practice. You will be joining a team of 10 GPs and 6
Practice Nurses. Experience as a GP
practice nurse preferable but training will be given.
To provide and
maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients, as well as providing
nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare
team. The duties will include all tasks
normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and any additional roles agreed
between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard to current
training.
The Practice has a
commitment to excellent patient care, quality improvement and teaching. It is
expected that all members of our clinical team are actively committed to
supporting these aims and participate in relevant activities when
appropriate.
Main duties of the job
To provide a range of nursing services,
including cytology, wound care, doppler, travel services, CHD/stroke
monitoring, baby clinics, vaccinations and immunisations, health checks, suture
removal, assist GPs with minor surgeries and coil fittings
Comply with QOF, enhanced services and
medicine management initiatives to maintain high standards
About us
We are a busy Surgery close to the M3 with easy links to London and the New Forest. We have over 15,500 and our team consists of 5 GP Partners, 4 Salaried GPs and a number of trainee GP's. We are also a training Practice for students undergoing their nursing degree. The nursing team comprises of 6 registered nurses, a HCA and phlebotomists.

Job Summary
To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients, as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team.
Job Responsibilities
Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs. Such tasks may include:
- Basic wound care / ulcer care
- Removal of sutures
- ECGs
- Blood pressure measurements
- Requesting basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
Other tasks including:
- Participation in administrative systems in the practice
- At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
- A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
- Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required.
Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
Following further training if required
- Routine immunisations and child immunisations

- Registered nurse with current NMC registration and active PIN
- Evidence of appropriate knowledge base
- Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation
- Assess complex health & wellbeing needs and develop, monitor and review care plans to meet specific needs
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Understanding of the wider determinants of health, including social economic and environmental factors and their impact on communities
- Portfolio of CPD with evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
- Ability to listen, empathise with people and provide person centred support in a non-judgemental way
- Able to get along with people from all backgrounds and communities, respecting lifestyles and diversity
- Ability to identify risk and assess/manage risk when working with individuals
