Job summary

MDC PCN aims to work strategically with all its practices, to help secure the best services for patients whilst working together, to support the member practices in the challenges of a changing NHS. The network aims to improve the morale of general practice in Bromley, by sharing expertise, services and supporting its workforce. The network will make a positive impact on medical services in Bromley, by working closely with the ICB, local NHS trusts, local providers and patient groups, to improve the delivery of healthcare to the local population.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for more than one receptionist to join our PCN team for the following shifts:

Mondays 8.45am - 3.45pm

Tuesdays 8.45am - 3.45pm and 3.30pm - 8pm

Wednesdays 8.45am - 3.45pm and 3.30pm - 8pm

Fridays 8.45am - 3.45pm

The perfect candidate will provide excellent customer service to assist in the smooth running of Extended Access to be delivered by the PCN. To be responsible for receiving patients in person, answering their questions and assisting clinical staff to ensure surgeries run smoothly. We are looking for someone with initiative to work on their own, who recognises the importance of patient services and values every patient and their needs.

This role is based in the practice at the following address:145 White Horse Hill, Chislehurst Kent BR7 6DH.

MDC PCN is a forward thinking group of 3 Bromley Practices which has been formed to benefit patients by offering improved access and extending the range of services available to them, and by helping to integrate primary care with wider health and community services. This PCN consists of The Chislehurst Partnership and The Links Medical Practice (Mottingham and Downham) covering over 37,000 patients.

Job responsibilities

Main duties and responsibilities;

  • Ensure that all reception duties and tasks are carried out in an effective, efficient and professional manner in line with the practices guidelines, procedures and protocols
  • Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
  • Undertake general office and reception duties including front desk, telephone and email.
  • Liaise with outside agencies as / when necessary
  • Respect confidentiality and data protection rules
  • Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way
  • Support the practice by taking telephone calls and answering queries, and providing a friendly service to all patients and visitors
  • Able to update the system (EMIS), book/cancel appointments, deal with registrations, greet patients professionally and complete general administration
  • Assisting the clinical team with any queries during their surgery
  • Completing end of the day duties ( eg collecting specimens/px paper/paperwork from clinical rooms)
  • Locking the surgery at the end of the evening ( with clinician)
  • Positive, can-do attitude and attention to detail
  • Handling queries in a time-effective manner
  • Managing queries relating to the PCN team.
  • Maintain good communication with PCN practices;
  • Participate in training, as appropriate;
  • Support the cover requirements for annual leave and sick cover.
  • Work collaboratively with all team members in achieving shared goals with a focus on quality care.
  • Anything else that is custom and practice to enable the smooth running of the network.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in dealing with the public such as a receptionist or customer service role
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Flexibility
  • Calm and caring attitude
  • Basic IT skills with experience of working with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word

Desirable

  • Experience with EMIS system and AccuRx messaging system
  • Working in the GP practice and/or primary care
