An
excellent opportunity has arisen within North Curry Health Centre to join the
Primary Health Care Team.
We are a
friendly Dispensing Practice with a list size of just over 4,000 patients. With
3 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 3 Practice Nurses, 1 HCA, 6 Dispensers and a
reception/admin team of 8 staff, and a Practice Manager.
Role: Practice Nurse
Reporting To: The Partners (Clinically)
The Practice Manager (Administratively)
Hours: 8-16 hours per week. Fixed Term Contract approx. 9 months (maternity cover)
We are looking for someone familiar with all aspects of primary care nursing and preferably up-to-date experience of chronic disease management including asthma, COPD and diabetes. We use Ardens templates and the EMIS Web clinical system to help maintain a high standard of care for our patients.
Main duties of the job
The Practice Nurse will work as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Services to the patients of North Curry Health Centre.
Salary is negotiable depending on
skills and experience. Benefits include an NHS Pension and five weeks annual
leave pro rata. Our successful candidate will be welcomed into a forward

with its great rail and motorway links to the rest of the country and its

Professional Responsibilities:
To assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by GPs. Such tasks will include:
- Phlebotomy.
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs.
- Urinalysis.
- ECGs.
- Performing any investigatory procedure requested by GPs.
- Management of anticoagulation patients using warfarin monitoring software.
- Ear examination and irrigation.
- Cervical sample taking.
- Contraceptive advice.
- Wound care and dressings.
- Removal of sutures/clips.
- Ulcer care and dressings.
- Doppler testing and stocking fit.
- Routine childhood and adult immunisations following patient group directions.
- Travel advice and immunisation following patient group directions.
- Routine injections.
- To recognise abnormalities and early signs of illness and manage or seek advice as appropriate.
- Chaperoning patients who are being examined by another clinician.
- To prepare for and assist, GPs with minor surgery and IUD fittings.
- Undertaking occasional home visits as required.
- To lead the routine management of patients on chronic disease registers following agreed clinical protocols and referring to GPs as appropriate: (Preferable not essential, full training will be given).
- Asthma, including reversibility testing.
- COPD, including spirometry.
- Coronary Heart Disease.
- Diabetes, including initiation of insulin.
