Job summary

Parklands Medical Practice are looking to recruit an enthusiastic healthcare assistant to work within our nursing team, who will provide a high standard of care to our patients working across two sites. Our patient population is very diverse; therefore, it is important that the candidate is caring and understanding and is able to adopt a holistic approach.

We are looking for an applicant who is hardworking and willing to learn and progress within their role. It is vital that the candidate has excellent communication skills and is a trusted member within the team. Our HCAs are heavily involved in the long-term management of patients with chronic diseases. They have a proactive role in providing education to our patients and preventative measures such as diet and lifestyle and smoking cessation advice.

Main duties of the job

  • Phlebotomy certification
  • Taking basic clinical observations such as blood pressure, height, and weight.
  • New patient medicals including height, weight and pulse
  • Collecting and recording specimens, such as urine and stool samples
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Punctual
  • Effective time management
  • Ability to follow clinical protocols and procedures and work within competence
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
  • Willingness to further develop to adapt to the needs of the team
  • High levels of integrity

About us

We are a large training practice with teams comprising of clinical and non clinical staff, with the experience and knowledge to support the Practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with health promotion activities, ensuring patients are informed about their health and wellness.
  • Perform basic clinical tasks, such as taking blood test, blood pressures, ECG, health checks and wound care etc
  • Handle patient records and other sensitive information with discretion and in compliance with confidentiality guidelines.
  • Offer empathetic and supportive care to patients, always prioritizing their comfort and well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with the clinical and management teams to deliver high-quality healthcare services.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the surgery by assisting with general administrative tasks as required.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience as a Health Care Assistant or in a similar healthcare support role is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong teamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with a patient-focused approach.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates empathy, discretion, and tact in all patient interactions.
  • A proactive, reliable, and adaptable attitude, ready to support the clinical team in providing outstanding care.
