Job summary

With the planned retirement of our senior GP Partner in November 2026 this is an exciting opportunity for a GP to join our remaining GP partners Drs Kyaw and Asowo at Lyngford Park Surgery.

We would expect our new partner to be an integral leader of our practice family leading by example, with high quality clinical practice as well as being business-minded with a deep commitment to our practice ethos.

We provide personalised patient care which is held in high regard by the local community and health care professionals. The practice was recently upheld as Good in our 2025 CQC assessment (and consistently scores over 95% for patient care and satisfaction.

Our motivated and personable clinical team includes 5 GPs, 2 practice nurses, Nurse Associate, HCA, 2 clinical pharmacists, pharmacy technician and on-site support from allied staff including a musculoskeletal Practitioner, a physiotherapist, a Child/Young Person Mental Health Co-ordinator and the Proactive Care Team.

In addition to our statutory role, we offer minor surgery, joint injection and LARC services. We are part of Tone Valley PCN and able to direct patients to the hub for services such as spirometry, phlebotomy and medical photography among others.

We are both a training practice for GP Registrars with the Severn Valley Deanery and for Exeter University medical students. There is ample opportunity to develop your portfolio to include interest in teaching and training.

Main duties of the job

Leadership & Partnership Responsibilities

  • Contribute to strategic planning and practice development
  • Participate in partnership meetings and decision-making processes
  • Share responsibility for clinical governance and quality improvement
  • Support workforce planning and team development
  • Take lead responsibility for one or two agreed practice portfolios, contributing to service development, quality improvement and strategic growth in areas aligned with individual skills and interests
  • Contribute to financial sustainability and business management
  • Assist in maintaining regulatory compliance (CQC, NHS contractual requirements)
  • Promote a positive, inclusive and supportive practice culture

We operate a team approach with morning whole team huddle followed by a quick clinical team huddle, weekly clinical meetings and biweekly management team business meetings. Group training sessions and whole team practice meetings are scheduled across the whole year.

  • Fully qualified GP eligible to work in NHS General Practice.
  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Registered on the General Practitioner Register under Article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003.
  • Registered on the National Performers List.
  • Not subject to suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983.
  • Clear DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) report.
  • Evidence of commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Experience working in general practice or primary care.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to listen actively and empathetically.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle criticism constructively.
  • Experience with clinical IT systems (e.g., EMIS).
  • Accurate and thorough record keeping.
