Job summary
This is an
exciting opportunity for a motivated and caring practice nurse to join our
highly rated GP surgery based in the Priorswood area of Taunton.
We have a
practice list of 6400 patients working from a large purpose-built surgery, with 3 large treatment rooms and 9 clinic rooms.
A
teaching practice, with GP registrars, medical and nurse students there is
opportunity for clinical skills advancement and training with monthly
educational/clinical/nurse team meetings.
Reporting
to and supported by the lead ANP nurse you will work alongside our GPs, Clinical
Pharmacists and Nursing Team. The successful candidate will provide all treatment
room duties, long term condition care and support CQC compliance.
This
is a permanent position of 20 hours a week minimum, additional hours can be considered.

About us
Lyngford Park
Surgery is a well organised practice on the outskirts of Taunton town centre. The practice
multidisciplinary team includes 5 GPs (3 GP partners), lead ANP nurse, 2 practice
nurses, HCA, trainee nurse associate, 2 clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technician,
plus reception and admin team. We have additional healthcare professionals who work
on site with us providing a range of services from physiotherapy, MSK and a paediatric
mental health support worker.
The practice is
well regarded and supportive of continuing professional development.
You would be
supported by Sam Mcloughlin, lead nurse, who has extensive experience in long term conditions care and is a qualified Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Sam has a dual
role as PCN lead nurse in West Somerset.
We use EMIS as our
clinical software and full training will be given if required.
We are an inclusive
team, starting each day with a 10 minute huddle in reception for all clinicians
and non-clinical staff. Hold monthly team and multidisciplinary team meetings
and away days. In July we hosted a practice open day for patients and the local
community in conjunction with the Patient Participation Group.

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by the Practice Manager and GPs, such tasks may include:
- Wound care / ulcer care
- Removal of Sutures and Clips
- New Patient Medicals
- Urinalysis and associated laboratory tests
- ECGs
- Venepuncture
- Blood pressure measurements Manual and Automatic
- Routine immunisations
- Depot injections
- Travel health Assessment and Vaccination Skills
- Long term condition management, in particular Asthma and COPD
- Cervical screening
- Childhood and adult immunisation programs
- Family planning and female health
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings including aseptic technique
- Requesting basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
- Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs
