Job summary

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Salaried GP to join our team to work 4 sessions a week.

Greet Medical Practice is a GMS practice situated in Greet Health Centre in the Heart of Birmingham. We are a proactive, friendly practice with a list size of 6000 patients. We currently have 4 GPs and 1 full time trainee GP. You will be supported by a Management Team, Practice Nurse and HCAs. Our attached staff consists of Health Visitors, District Nurses, Midwives, Drug Worker, Social Worker and Health Exchange Worker.

Main duties of the job

  • The post-holder will deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. The post holder will undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone and video consultations, home visits, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.

The Practice has access to diagnostic treatments for patients i.e. Ultrasound Scans, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology etc. The practice is also a training practice involved in research with the clinical Research Network Primary care based at the University of Birmingham.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other healthcare workers within the organisation.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collecting data for audit purposes.
  • Compiling and issuing computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate.

In general, the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Qualifications

Essential

  • a 5-year degree in medicine, recognised by the General Medical Council.
  • a 2-year foundation course of general training.
  • a 3-year specialist training course in general practice.

Experience

  • Qualified GP and Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients

  • Experience of working in Primary Care
