Job summary

To maximise the benefits of our size, we are now establishing a prescribing hub, based at The Endeavour Practice to increase the efficiency and expertise of both practices. The hub will train other members of the admin team whilst driving innovation in the key area of prescribing. The practices are already second and third amongst Middlesbrough practices in terms of repeat dispensing levels, and manage the prescribing needs of a specialist neuro-rehab care home.

We have a pharmacy team provided by our PCN and also directly employ our own pharmacy technician. You will report to our group prescribing lead.

Main duties of the job

As directed by the Ironopolis Prescribing Lead, to act as first point of communication between the GPs, Practice Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, the Admin Team, Operations Managers, Patients and local Chemists as well as other members of the primary health care team to ensure patients repeat medication is produced in a timely fashion and in line with practice protocols.

The Ironopolis Medical Group was established in 2017 by the administrative merger of The Endeavour Practice and Martonside Medical Centre, two Middlesbrough practices with excellent reputations for many years.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose

The post holder will provide an efficient, customer focused prescription service to all patients and clients of Ironopolis which will contribute to the professional reputation of the practices.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As directed by the Ironopolis Prescribing Lead, to act as first point of communication between the GPs, Practice Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, the Admin Team, Operations Managers, Patients and local Chemists as well as other members of the primary health care team to ensure patients repeat medication is produced in a timely fashion and in line with practice protocols.

Job responsibilities

To process prescription requests from patients, pharmacies and hospitals

To liaise with patients, pharmacies and hospitals regarding queries and requests.

To manage the reauthorisation process of prescription requests.

To manage patients who are on repeat dispensing and organise requests so they are processed in a timely and efficient fashion.

To ensure patients are recalled for medication reviews where appropriate

To work closely with the practice pharmacist & other prescription administrators in the organisation

To provide receptionist support for the practices either in this role or to support the wider team as required.

To work with other members of the prescribing team to implement new systems and procedures as required.

  • Ability to travel independently.

Experience

  • Experience of processing prescriptions within a general practice setting
  • Good organisational skills
  • Able to work positively as part of a team
  • Able to build effective working relationships
  • Able to communicate with all levels of staff as required
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills, Courteous, tactful and efficient telephone manner
  • Experience of using Microsoft Word
  • Accurate keyboard skills
  • Knowledge of Data Protection, Equality and diversity, protection of vulnerable adults and children and IPC

Desirable

  • Experience of advanced prescription admin work including electronic repeat dispensing
  • Experience of SystemOne
  • Knowledge of Data Protection within healthcare
  • Proficient in Microsoft packages including Word and Excel
  • Experience of implementing new processes
