Job summary

To be responsible for the accurate and timely processing of prescription requests for the practice population, liaising effectively with all relevant personnel. Duties can include but are not limited to, the processing of repeat prescriptions in electronic and hard copy format, including online requests.

Main duties of the job

Process repeat prescription requests in readiness for GP signature within agreed timeframe.

Reconcile medications to facilitate collection timetable.

Liaise with patients and Clinician's regarding medication queries.

Ensure medication reviews are arranged by maintaining an accurate recall system.

Effectively liaise with external services i.e. district nurses to ensure medicaments are arranged for housebound patients.

Update patient records as appropriate.

Record and report significant events accurately and appropriately, informing the Clinical Pharmacist/GP immediately following internal reporting procedures.

Act upon compliance issues, liaising with the appropriate clinician

Liaise with pharmacies on the supply of prescribed drugs, alert our clinicians of any supply issues and forward information on the recommended alternatives.

Expedite urgent prescriptions to help ensure a safe and responsive service for our patients

Liaise with external Pharmacy services and patients as necessary to resolve queries.

Build good working relationships with local Pharmacies to help enable our prescription service

Support the practice clinical pharmacist as required.

Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead.

Support the leadership team in reviewing and updating the practice prescribing policy.

Having recently registered as a training practice we now consist of 3 partners and 4 salaried GPs in addition to 2 nurses, GP trainees, medical students and ARRS staff. Administration and professional responsibilities

  • Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team.
  • Accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes.
  • Ensure clinical systems kept up to date, recording and/or amending accurate details.
  • Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the practice.
  • Attend and participate in practice meetings as required.

  • Maintain up to date skills and knowledge.

Confidentiality

In the course of engagement, patients entrust practice staff with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters.

  • Comply with Legislation with regards to data protection act and ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • The post-holder must regard all information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers (as well as information relating to the practice as a business organisation) as strictly confidential.
  • Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality, data protection legislation and the protection of personal and sensitive data, as well as other related healthcare legislation (e.g. the NHS Confidentiality Code of Practice).
