Job summary
Liverpool PCN are
seeking an enthusiastic, patient-focused, and independently motivated person to
join our existing pharmacy team. We are looking for a candidate with energy and an interest in developing the Pharmacy Technician role through
collaborative working.
This is a new role taking advantage of the NHS Network Contract DES for the
Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme.
The successful
candidate will work across the 17 GP Practices in the PCN, with projects
ranging from dealing with prescription requests, cost-saving switches to
facilitating medication reviews and systems and process improvements. We expect
contribution to the overall medicines optimisation programme acting on best
practice models from local and national guidelines.
This role will be
critical to realising our ambitions to improve patient outcomes in practices and care homes.

Main duties of the job
The successful
candidate will support the PCN Pharmacy Team to ensure the delivery of safe,
effective and efficient systems for repeat prescribing, medicines optimisation,
reducing medicines waste and maximising patient outcomes as well as
facilitating structured medication reviews and performing searches and
assisting dispensing practices in projects.
The role is pivotal
to improving the quality of care and operational efficiencies so requires
motivation and passion to deliver excellent service provision within general
practice.
We expect the
successful application to:
1. Lead
improvements to maximise safe, cost effective and best practice in prescribing
to improve the quality of patient care.
2. Be a skilled
professional to help patients to get the best from their medicines by switching
medications to agreed and approved protocols.
3. Improve repeat
prescribing processes in General Practice, including promotion of repeat
dispensing and online ordering.
4. Minimise
clinical risk and aiming to reduce wasted medicines.
5. Support patients
on discharge from hospital, requiring excellent communication skills.
6. Being a Pharmacy
Technician in the PCN will be an evolving job role with huge scope for
development as we expand our PCN team further over the years.

About us
North Liverpool Primary Care Network is a collaboration of 17 GP Practices geographically
aligned and working together to improve patient care. North Liverpool PCN has a
weighted patient population of approximately 100,000 patients. It is a
very large PCN with a diverse multi-cultural population with complex patient needs.
Our
Network Team work across these practices, with the aim of improving our
patient's wellbeing and addressing health inequalities in North Liverpool.

Qualification & Experience
- The candidate must be a Pharmacy Technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Academic/vocational qualifications BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent and have a NVQ level
- Experience of working within a primary care setting
- Significant relevant and ongoing CPD
- Full UK Driving Licence
Skills & Knowledge
- Experience of participation in audits or project management
- Experience working with GP Practices and the law related to medicines use
- An appreciation of drug actions, doses, formulations and interactions for commonly prescribed medications. Familiarity with NICE technology appraisals relevant to primary care
- Experience of EMIS or previous experience within a comparable role in general practice
- Good communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to recognise and work within bounds of own competence
- Good IT skills
