Job summary
Owing to retirement , we are looking for a Practice Nurse to join our experienced and friendly Martonside team close to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The post is part-time with some flexibility on the hours available.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist in the delivery of nursing care in General Practice, ensuring that all care is of a high standard and in a way that meets the privacy and dignity of the patient.
The post holder will be working autonomously as well as providing nursing assistance
to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team.
About us
The Ironopolis Medical Group was formed through the administrative merger of Martonside Medical Centre and The Endeavour Practice in June 2017.
This position is for our Martonside Practice. The group has 6 GP Partners and a Management Partner. Each site has its own list of over 8000 patients and both sites are training practices.
Our Management Partner is the Chair of Central Middlesbrough PCN.
Our Clinical system is SystmOne.

Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by GPs, tasks may include
- Basic wound care / ulcer care
- Removal of Sutures
- Chronic Disease Management including Diabetes, Asthma & COPD
- Travel Clinics
- Urinalysis
- ECGs
- Venepuncture
- Blood pressure measurements
- Routine immunisations
- Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil / implant fittings
- Requesting basic pathology tests e.g. urine culture, swabs
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to GPs as appropriate
- Undertake housekeeping duties including, general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
- Ordering of vaccinations, drugs, dressings and medical equipment to maintain stock levels (if required)
- At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
- Advise GPs of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
- Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required
- Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.

- Ability to use own judgment, resourcefulness and common sense.
- A commitment to maintain a high professional standard of nursing care and keep up to date with all aspects of nursing care relevant to the post.
- A commitment to ensure all Health and Safety requirements and Infection Control measures are met and to report any problems to management.
- A commitment to the effective use of Practice and NHS resources
- An awareness of own limitations and experience.
- To work only in accordance with the UKCC Code of Conduct and within the Scope of Professional Practice.
- To have a written professional development plan and to maintain an up to date portfolio which meets the requirements of registration with the UKCC.
- Cooperate with annual appraisal meetings.
